Noise from my tunze 6105

I have 2 tunze 6105 and have had these pumps for a little bit over 2 1/2 years. Both of these pumps are controlled off of an apex. One of these pumps is dead silent. The other one makes a humming noise. This one also has a problem of restarting after I turn it off during a water change, even if I have cleaned it recently. Is this noise a sign that something is grinding and should I be concerned about this? Is there any way to fix it?

By cleaning have you given it a good vinegar bath?

I would disassemble the drive units, down to the prop and magnet and the shaft and motor and disks and soak all these parts in 50/50 vinegar and water for a few hours until no lime scale is visible. The only other possibility is wear of the disks or bent shafts. There are two designs, removable shafts prior to Nov 2011 and fixed shafts after Nov 2011. The removable shafts have blue bushings on either end and span to the front cover, the fixed shaft must stay permanently in the motor and is not longer than the motor block itself.
