Noisy Reefpack 200

I bought one of the Reefpaks from Marine Depot. I think it was the Reefpack 200. It came with a skimmer and a mechanical filter.

It ran almost silent for two weeks and then developed a noisy, almost screechy sound. Is there any way to get rid of this sound? It will get louder, then softer, then louder again on a random basis. Everything appears to be running, but the sound is annoying.

I actually figured out where this is coming from and have another question. It appears to be coming from the air intake valve, that little blue screw on the side of the skimmer close to the collection cup. My problem is that if I run the skimmer where the bubble level is even with the bottom of the collection cup, I get the noise. To run it as instructed, I get the noise. Is there any other way to silence this?

I think it should be fine to lower the water level a bit, that just means it's choking a bit, taking in some water through the air intake. very slightly lower the water and slightly up the air intake and it should work fine. I generally prefer that arrangement as the foam is drier. Good to see you around again, Mike!
