Noisy Tunze 6045

Roger,

I recently bought a 6045, about 2 weeks ago. In the last 2 days it has started making a buzzing sound every few minutes. This noise lasts less than a minute and goes away. There is nothing caught in there, and nothing I seem to be able to do to affect the sound? Any ideas?

Thanks,
Chris

Is the front cover loose? My guess would be that the prop is rubbing on the front cover intermittently. The other possibility would be that it has the stainless steel disk under the propeller and this has come loose and is free in the propeller cavity.

We use vaseline at the factory for dry testing. Take the impeller out and wipe it off to make sure there isn't any vaseline left that could cause the impeller to stick to the side walls. Also make sure that there isn't small grains of sand or anything like that in the impeller shaft that would be causing this noise as well.

Ok, took it aprt and cleaned it again, this time paying closer attention. I could not find anything wrong at all. The washer is around the shaft and then the impeller. Everything seems perfectly clean.

It almost sounds more like an electric buzz I suppose. Almost like an airpump or something running. It seems to be getting alittle bit louder as I can hear it in the adjacent room. Really random when it comes and goes.

Thanks,
Chris

If you would like, go ahead and send it to us for repair, if it cannot be repaired then we will replace it for you.

I may end up doing that. I'll need to find an alternative to keep flow in the tank in the interim, so it may be a little while before I can ship it in.

Thanks,
Chris

You might also try just swiveling it in the holder and flipping the stainless steel disk over just to rule out any sort of strange reverberation.
