Ok...so I'm super excited about going saltwater now...as you can probably tell. Here's a question I've been putting off though...how hard are water changes? Do you have to pre-mix the salt in a seperate container and pump it into the aquarium? In my freshwater setup it was as easy as hooking up a hose to my sink and draining water out with the siphon and then filling it right back up with tap water then treating the entire tank with de-chlorinator. Something tells me it isn't this easy with a saltwater setup..???
BRS Pukani Dry Aquarium Live Rock is what the video looks like. Water changes are not bad just longer then a freshwater. Do u live next to a saltwater fish store?
Unfortunately...no. The only stores I have close by that deal with saltwater fish are Petco. I do have 2 LFS that stock saltwater fish though. So what exactly do you mean by the water changes take longer....??
Ok so what I mean is u have to mix the Salt with rodi water, so it is more time consuming. But if u have a LFS that does saltwater fish most of the time they have a mixing station there. You would have to bring 2 five gal water jugs empty and buy saltwater, they fill it up and u do a water change like always. Just don't add skink water! add the saltwater.
Now some people use sink water and not rodi water but that how you get green hair algae super bad. City water is very dirty and will grow algae must faster because of the phosphates and nitrates in it and it is chlorinated. Rodi is reversed osmosis with a Deionized filter on the end. It makes very clean water, so using good water will start you off right! LFS have a rodi unit and sell the water and that's why I was asking what's in the area. Some only sell freshwater but u have to mix it.
