Normal Unicorn tang behavior?

I just rescued a unicorn tang today, I was wondering what normal behavior is for them?

Also, the lfs was feeding him prawn. Now that he's in my tank he wont touch the stuff. Any recomends on food for the giant? My naso and him are getting along, but the Unicorn has no interest for seaweed, brine, or prawn.

Thanks!

I assume you are talking ablout the one in your avatar ( Naso unicornis). I had one in my 220 for almost 5 years. Beautiful fish as an adult. When I gave him to my Cousin for is 300 (at 12" long) it took him about a week and a half to begin to pick at nori sheets. I would say just keep everything running as usual, if he was eating at the LFS chances are he will eventually grub down for you. If your naso is similar sized he may be intimidating him a bit, Just give it a couple days to settle in and get used to his new roommates. Good Luck on your beautiful new addition.

Very neat fish...They are big swimmers that use the entire tank, no matter how large the tank is. I would make sure he gets some sort of greens (seaweed/nori, etc.) almost everyday. I would try garlic to entice him, once he's comfy he will eat anything.

I'm glad you rescued him. Pics please...

Mine also eats everything that I put in the tank. He will consume a 8" x 10" sheet of algae in a single feeding, and eats frozen shrimp, clam, squid, mussel and octopus.

However, the FAVORITE food is formula 1 (or 2) pellets. Most all my fish just love those pellets!

I still say that your fish doesn't quite look like N. unicornis. It could be he is much older than mine. Here's mine by comparison...

Ya I pretty much rescued mine, he was pretty much bleached due to lack of care.

His blue colors are starting to come back, but yours is still beautiful.

Hes about 12-14" so he might be alot older then yours.

He just keeps pacing the entire tank staying as close to the front glass as possible. (btw hes twice as big as the naso) He doesn't utilize the full space of the tank which is curious to me.

He just started eating nori!

Fed the tank right after I posted, and he went crazy for it.

Guess I got to start buying it in bulk :)

I'm glad you rescued him! Now get a bigger tank so you can keep him for a long, long time!

haha, Im in the process of getting a house in the next 3 months. Once I get it im planning on doing a special tank build for him.

(Tang police don't worry! He was rescued and we are prepared to build a larger tank for him!)

I have a 210 that has become too small (and I've just had it five years!) I expect to move in the next year, and will be looking to an upgrade! :) Good luck with your unicorn tang. They are awesome fish.
