North Dakota Mini-Ocean

Sounds good. Do you add any seaweed? I always stayed away from clams, just so my fish didn't get a "taste" for that!

ah, got it. I stopped doing that early on when my fish ripped the seaweed to shreds and some of it ended up in the rocks or overflow. But I also used a modified paper shredder to get the strands so they could consume it easily without making a mess.

BTW, that Wrought Iron is wicked.

I like to hold the algea sometimes and it seems like they enjoy eating from the clip. Plus, they can graze that way over a longer period of time. Yes, the wrought iron is going to be a show stopper. I've really missed the presence that big blue gave the tank. One really dumb mistake on my part.

Not Good...

Got this shipment at 10am this morning and opened the box to bags dark brown and lots of odor. The bags were very warm to the touch and most of the corals were bone white. My guess is the corals got over 90 degrees for a long time. The heat packs were right on some of the bags. Ugh...

oh wow :(
in my exp. any corals that are browned out have a decent chance, green/white....i have had a couple pull through but it took months and they corals have eventually died out over time. white = sigh
its actually decent outside for this time of year too. sorry to see all those corals like that :(

I am semi positive about this because one of the nicest corals i have in my tank came from one coralite. So even the white ones might have a coralite that i can't see yet.

The guy who did send them might be nice enough to re-ship again as they were just frags. I will talk to him today about that possibility.

Good point, i have had a couple whites come back as long as they had somekind of polyp extension. glad you might get a re-ship thats always good news and if he comes through a good reason to buy from him again. i looked at the pic of them before shipment, wow you have some real stunners that were shipped to you.

The guy is super nice!! He said he will replace all that die, and will ship em out in next couple months as his tank grows out again. I am in no rush and I think I can probably nurse most of them back to good health.

I just looked at the pictures in his tank again too...Wow.

We all learn these lessons in some part unfortunately, and sometimes no matter what we do, it is unavoidable. But to yoru credit, you have a really nice QT system(s) and hopefully that will alleviate future tragedy. I had 75+ fish die because the supplier had a monkey pack them. I also lost 2 x Naso tangs wihtin 2 weeks of putting them in the DT. They just wouldn't eat, and frankly looked strange, like very stupid. The consensus was that they were both caught with cyanide.

glad to see you have coral QT btw, thats something i would like to do in the future, i finally have a frag tank going but only have lps in there atm. my display tank is stuffed so i dont see myself adding a QT in the near future. with 3 tanks and a stock tank going a good part of my week is spent on making sure everything is running smoothly lol

I have had several corals come back to life after being "dead" for months, covered in algae (after death) etc. It can happen, which is why I usually don't remove them from the system. I would sometimes just place them out of view, and see what happens.
