Hey everyone! I am new to SW but I am really looking forward to the chance to have one!

I live in a town north of Rockford Illinois...Roscoe!

Hope to hear from some of you that live near me. Maybe we can hook up in Rockford for dinner or something?!?

Do I need to do anything for membership? Any dues or anything of the likes? Just let me know...

Jeffrey

Hey, I live in Rockford. It's kind of hard to find stuff locally. You'll usually need to go towards Chicago to find some decent stores. If you want to get together we can discuss all things salty just PM me.

Don't forget Dekalb...Rod's reef. Won't have the city traffic to contend with and you will meet an extremely knowledgeable owner that is in the hobby to help people.

You would be foolish to miss out on meeting Rod.

Very nice! That is not too far away from me at all! Is that the name of his store...Rod's Reef?

Is there an addy or website?

I will certainly give him a visit...

Benjie - We will have to hook up! I will get in contact with you after the Easter season...kinda busy time of the year for me in my profession...:D

That is too funny! I work at the big church just East of there...right by the grassy area where you race your tractor!

The owner of the True Value is really a great guy.

Hope to meet up with you sometime!

Rockford is not exactly a bustling hub of reef activity. If you ever need anyting, PM or email me. I am slowly stocking my 400 and am willing to add you to any orders I make.

My 6 y/o little girl is the reason I keep reefs. We had one with her as a baby and she knows more saltwater animals names than most adults i know. Now i have two additional children (boys) and all of them love the tanks and feeding the fish.

Patty and I are in Algonquin.Thats not far from ya.We are here to help in any way.We are frugel reefers....we want alot for our money.[I payed 70$ for 3, 400 watt MH ballests]We have 2 ,150's and a 90 full of extra rock.We will aslo frag our corals so send us a PM.I love this hobby....Mitch

I appreciate the hints regarding the local SW fishstores that are out there. I went to the lfs that I normally go to (this last weekend) and they, to be honest, were real jerks.

So I won't be going there in the future...they were selling frags that were about 1/2 inch and they were selling for 15-18 dollars each.

Now I am a long ways away from coral, but they seem to be high priced...which I would not mind so much if they were kind. That is a huge thing for me. If you can't be nice, I won't give you my business.

Just me...but thanks for all the help!

Jeffrey

Don't forget those of us to the north :)

The Madison area has a reef club, and had our second frag-swap about 6 weeks ago. We're always happy to have new folks come through ... and once/twice a year have meetings in the Janesville area - maybe not too far for you. [nice tanks in Janesville].

That said, CMAS is larger + has more going on ... just good to know of all your local possibilities :)

Thanks Middleton!

I am just south of Beloit Wisconsin...about 15 mins away from Janesville. That is where I was at the lfs that has really gone downhill in my opinion.

Any good Janesville SW stores?

Thanks in advance...

I like kerusso316 am in Algonquin about 40 minutes east of you. I have many corals that can be fragged some cheap and some not so cheap. The folks at the previously mentioned Oceans Floor know me well. LMK if I can be of assistance.

I gotta be honest...I have never seen people so willing to help. I have had people pm me their phone numbers, helpful advice, encouragement and so on...and nobody really knows me yet!

I cannot tell you how much I appreciate it. I cannot wait to get the tank set up! It is being torn down in April and will then be set up in my basement! Man I can't wait!

Middleton - I went to Preferred Pets in Janesville. They have been wonderful in the past, but over the last two years, they have really gotten a rotten attitude...not sure why. That is where I went this last weekend. Was kinda sad to see their attitude go south.

But I am looking forward to going to Rod's this week. Can't wait. Poor guy is going to get 3000 questions from me. :D

The nice thing about Rod...he will be happy to answer them all for you and do his best to help you suceed in this hobby. I have learned a ton from him and continue to each time I visit. Which is a lot. :) You can't go wrong with Rod. Great attitude, willingness to help and gives sound adice. he will not allow you to spend money you do not need to spend either. I find that very comforting myself.

Enjoy your visit. You will not be disappointed. If you have time, you are more than welcome to come out to Naperville and see my new 120g that I just set up. Of course, I got many tips from Rod to make it happen.
