Not angry but VERY disappointed

I purchased a purple LTA about 1-1/2 weeks ago. I ordered a small one (around the size of a baseball) for $50. + shipping. What I received is a BABY bleached purple LTA the size of a quarter. Currently it's hanging in there with lots of nurturing on my part; however, this was my first online purchase and I am disappointed because of its size and color. And, $50. is a LOT for a nem of that size.

Thanks for your feed back. I am sorry your order was not up to expectation. Anemones are mostly water and can and do expel the water especially when stressed. Which clearly it was, if it has bleached. Shipping is very stressful to all marine animals. Our site does not say "around the size of a baseball" it says "SMALL is generally smaller than a baseball". I assure you we did not ship out an animal the size of a quarter. The LTA is a restricted species because it is a delicate shipper and it is not uncommon for this to happen. If it would not be to much trouble to email me a picture with your order number, I will see what we can do for you.

Hi Steve, thanks for responding. Yes, I did read incorrectly when thinking "about the size of a baseball". My mistake. However, it really is the size of a quarter (now it's expanding to about the size of 50 cent piece). The good news is, it is getting sticky and it is taking very small pieces of mysis shrimp. It's so small though, that I have it securely surrounded by small rocks so that it doesn't float away. Just today it partially buried its foot and partially attached to a rock. Five days after receiving this baby I got another purple LTA which is 4" in diameter and its foot buried after being in my tank for 1-1/2 hours. Steve, a picture is worth a thousand words--unfortunately I don't have a digi camera so I'll have to try to borrow one so that I can send a picture. And, I realize that with no picture my credibility is about zilch.

Steve, the baby is regaining its color--slowly. I really don't want credit or another animal because I love this little guy. I guess I just wanted to give MD "a heads up"; also, I do realize that these nems are delicate shippers so I'm glad it's still alive.

What I wouldn't mind is any free advice you can give me to help keep it alive. Now it's close to the bigger purple LTA and is "hanging in there". Any advice would be welcome...

Sincerely,
Awestruck

No problem on the sizing. It is easy to misread things. They usually are pretty close to baseball size when shipping. I am glad it is getting better. Yes a picture would be helpful, but it sounds like it is recovering fairly quickly actually. I had one that took months to regain its color and size, but it did.
We are always here to give advice and you are very welcome to as much advice as we can give. It sounds like you off to a good start. Don't try to feed it to much. Give it time.
Feed back is always appreciated. Otherwise how would we know how things arrive?

Awestuck, first off -- clean out your PM box. ;)

As I was going to tell you in my PM.

Digging a hole for it should help. You may have to adjust the flow in your tank for it to settle in.
As for the feeding, give it some time -- it takes energy for them to consume food. It seems counterproductive, but sometimes trying to feed them can add to the stress.
I would also suggest keeping your clowns away from it ( if they are in it ) the anemone needs time to settle in.

I am pretty sure you've seen the pictures of my PLTA, I got it from MD a while ago, and it is now tough as nails.

HTH.

Hi Steve, the baby nem still isn't doing well. It was doing ok for a while but now it won't stay settled. Everything else in my tank is flourishing. I have tried putting it in a quiet spot, dug it hole about 7-8 times, and enclosed it in rock. I am getting really bummed out because I don't know what else to do.

Your anemone is not going to stay put, if it does not like where you put it. It is very common for them to roam your tank. Trying to get it to stay in one place is just going to cause more stress. Your LTA requires at least 2-3" of sand and good strong lighting and current. If it does not have these conditions, it will keep roaming trying to find it.
