I'm new to coral and saw this beautiful deep purple coral at my lfs. I asked if it was some kind of clove polyp and the girl said yes. After googling clove polyp, I'm not so sure anymore. What do you guys think?

They are more of a deeper purple than the picture shows. Also, I added them last night so they are still stressed out and not fully open yet.
Any ideas?

Also, I think these zoas are Fire & Ice but I wanted confirmation:

Thanks in advance!

Thanks, Kingfisher62.
I'll try to take better pictures when it's fully open.

Here's some details while I wait:
-They are very tiny individual "polyps"...almost like a miniture version of clove polyps.
-They don't have a "mat" or crusted material underneath, each individual "polyp" grows out of the rock.

They are partially extended in the picture. My lawn mower blenny scared me by darting from one end to another when I was placing the rock in the tank and I dropped it on the sand, I tried to get most of the sand off from in between them...they were obviously irritated lol. =(

Anyone else have an ideas? Thanks =D

Now thats funny!
When ever i have my hands in my 14g biocube I get viciously attacked by my two clowns. No matter how many times it happened before it still scares the heck out of me.

Very curious to find out what those polyps are. I never seen them before. Some sort of octocoral.

This is one of those corals that are unfortunately miss named, even by my self. Blue cloves,Metallic Blue Cloves, Anthellia, I have even seen Japanese Clove polyps..Mine are getting DNA tested right now, From what i know now, they are xeniids belonging to either Sarcothelia or Sansibia. Here is a photo of mine.

saltwaterpimp , great pics I like the shot that shows how they spread . They all look interconnected but not the typical matting that I am familiar with like Green star polyps.

Are they easy to keep?

Heranatomy, how are your's doing?

They are super easy, and a super pain if you let them grow on everything.I think xeniids says all..I have found only one thing they dont like, and thats Higher Alk levels.Heranatomy you might want to check this..Yours looked like mine did after a overdose, 12.5DKH i guess is to high.

You can see the rest of my photos for comparison here

everytime one of our hands are in the tank, the lawn mower blenny is hiding. thats funny.

the clown we have is a punk, very brave guy. only thing i know hes scared of is the green net!

I suspect there are likely a number of Cespitularia in the hobby under other common names, too. Nice pics, saltwaterpimp.

I had those little blue guys on some live rock that I bought. I loved it. Unfortunately, the live rock also had majano anemones on it, and I handled that rock alot, while I hunted and killed off the majano anemones. That handling of the rock killed off any of that coral that I had. Barren after that. It sucked becauase I really liked em.

i'm starting to see my blue snowflake cloves take over quick, but they are nice lookin i got some that are half light blue and half dark blue on individual polyp.

Mine seemed to grow well when I had my skimmer set for dry. They once looked like yours but later grew taller and more open. Sucks I also had grape caulerpa grow on the same rock.

they look like purple clove polyps I bought some 6 months ago and they keep spreading. The weird part is they don't just spread outward from the main colony. New patches of them will start to grow in random places.
