Not sure of this coral... some kind of clove polyp?

they look like purple clove polyps I bought some 6 months ago and they keep spreading. The weird part is they don't just spread outward from the main colony. New patches of them will start to grow in random places.

They broadcast spawn, mine did it last night. I got pics of it but saltwaterpimp's shots are way better than mine.

When I first purchased them, they were a deep, dark purple. They sat flush against the rocks. In my tank, they're under PCs so, they extend more, and turned a light purple color.

Here they are open:

P.S. There isn't any matting...they grow straight out of the rock.

I'm new to coral and saw this beautiful deep purple coral at my lfs. I asked if it was some kind of clove polyp and the girl said yes. After googling clove polyp, I'm not so sure anymore. What do you guys think?

I just quoted this post to compare pics next to each other!

Holy crap, heranatomy ,your alive ! I thought you fell off the face of the earth.

The polyps look better but the growth looks differant. Did you turn the rock around or did you loose some polyps and get some new growth?

Hahah, apparently i dont get notified of new posts.

Turn the rock around in the first pic...I wedged it differently in my rockwork, lol. it's basically flipped upside down from the first photo. They are MUCH lighter than when i originally purchased them. Like i said, in the LFS they are a beautiful DEEP purple. Under my PCs, they are a dull light purple. Also, the seem to extend out a lot more, im assuming bc of the lack of light. At the lfs, they sat flush against the rock =(

I will be upgrading my tank and the lighting, so hopefully i will see the same results i saw in the lfs =D

ETA: My fire and ice zoas melted away! =(((((((((((( they were my favorite and now they're gone! I recently quit my job (inappropriate male boos :() so i can't afford any :'(. Booooo =((((

Sorry to hear about your job and zoas. Hey, sometimes change is good.
I used to have a lot of zoanthids in my biocube they all did grat for about a year than they started melting away . I never figured that one out. One of those rocks ended up in my 55g tank and some of the zoas sprung up from the dead . I am telling ya, that rock was barren . Now there are about 25 polyps two differant varieties. Go figure!
