Not sure what this is

Purchased a Valentini Puffer the other day. (1/15). Brought it home and floated the bag in my already running and cycled QT tank. At this time I also purchased 2 firefish gobies.

I used a baster to remove store water and ad my water, over the course of maybe 20-30 minutes. Pull out 2 basters worth, and ad one baster of mine.

Today, 1/19, I noticed a lump with 2 white/gray markings. Almost like puss pockets. No other discoloration noticed. Fish shows no signs of discomfort or distress. He carries on his daily routine quite normally.

1. How old is this aquarium?

Aquarium IS the quarantine tank - Been running for 2 weeks.

2. If less than six months old, what is ammonia level?

Zero.

3. What is SG of this aquarium? How measured?

1.023 - hydrometer

4. When was the last fish added to this aquarium?

5. Was it quarantined? If so, how? And how long? Was it prophylactically treated? How?

Was floated for temp and acclimated per normal processes. No store water made it into my system.

6. If you are using a copper based medication, which one? How often do you measure level? When?

No medication issued as of yet

7. If you are using hyposalinity, how did you calibrate your refractometer?

N/A

8. Please describe in detail, the appearance of the fish? If there is one or more pimples, are they lumpy? What color?

Fish appears 100% normal, aside from a single lump on one side, roughly half the distance between fins, and there are 2 pus-like growths on the lump.

9. Please describe the behavior of the fish as best you can. Is it acting reclusive? Is it always up towards the top of the aquarium? Is it avoiding light? How active is the fish?

Fish is behaving 100% normal. Swimming, eating, sleeping all as it has since day 1. Height in the aquarium varies, as it should.

10. Is the fish eating? What?

Fish is eating brine, flake, and whatever it scavenges off of the rocks.

I will try to get a better close up tomorrow. It does not look like a wound. There is a lump under the skin. The skin is not discolored in the affected area. Ontop of the lump, there is what looked like 2 small white-ish gray blobs. They were above the skin. As of 8 hours ago (at work right now) the 2 spots had become 1 large spot, engulfing the top face of the lump.

Looks a lot like lymphocystis honestly. None of the photos or articles show/mention a lump, however. Just the cyst looking growth.

Lymphocystis would be kind of good news. The cysts can also be on the inside of the body and cause bumps.

Lymphocystis is quite common with new fish, but should go away on its own when the fish's immune system recovers.

Lump is 75% or so gone, and the 2 blobs that merged into 1 have become 2 again and I can see his coloration through the blobs. Looks like what ever it is/was, is receding.

He will probably end up with permanent residency of my QT tank so he leaves my corals alone. Working on making the setup a little more puffer friendly.

I don't think he is going to make it. I think I was too late blocking off the air sponge. He had a large turd hanging from him with foam in it. He is now hiding upside down, won't eat, and won't socialize at all.
