I have used both pumps over last year on a 125 six foot long perfecto tank with corner overflows.
The wavebox creates a large powerful wave, over two inches high if you set it right. The noise from the wavebox is loud, you can hear the vibration from pump as it cycles from the next room. I didn't like the way it looked in the tank, took up too much space.
I just got the vortech a few days ago. Small footprint inside the tank, looks even smaller than the nano stream I have in my tank. The dry side is not visible when viewing from the front of the tank. I could only get a 1/4 to 1/2 inch wave though. The pump is much more quiet and has several programs that create different flows. I set it to lagoon and it works well. Brilliant design concept, keeping the motor out of saltwater. I am guessing that the vortech doesn't need to be maintenanced very often, which is good.
I would recommend using the wavebox on very large tanks. The wave action is awesome. I often thought it would be possible for the tank wall to come apart at the seems under the stress of the waves. The water would cascade over the corner overflows.
I saw the video of the vortech online making a large wave. I couldn't tell how long the tank was from the video. Anyone able to get a big wave with one vortech on a six foot long tank?
