November MARS Meeting

Dude: Some poor Round Table employee is gonna curse us and report us to the manager. "Look! I mean really! Them reef geeks splat cement and saltwater and whatever everywhere! I'm not gonna mop this!"

Mark: Your thinking disturbs me. But now that you bring it up, I've got tarps too if we need them.

Tarps are already covered. But you can bring extras if you like.
We will be providing gloves for handling the aragocrete, water to clean up with, everything should be pretty well contained.

A big thanks to all the members and new folks that came out to our Nov meeting. If there are any suggestions on our meeting, please let me know.

A special thanks to Aaron and crew for the great presentation on aragacrete. If you made a piece of rock, take some pictures and post them so we can see your creations.

And thanks to Brian for the glass drilling demo.

Don't miss the Dec Christmas Party and if you want in on the raffle, remember you need to be a registered member. Here are the steps to register.
1. go to the MARS web site:
http://www.marineaquaristroundtable.org/Home/tabid/75/Default.aspx
2. on the right hand side you will see the word Register, click on it.
3. Fill in the info in the 7 fields on the Preferred User Information screen, then click on Register at the bottom of the page.
4. Remember your user name.
5. come to the next MARS meeting and give your user name and $25.00 to the Secretary. You will receive your membership card at that time.

See, not so hard. The new membership cards now begin 12 months from the date you first register and are renewed every 12 months. Here is an example. Say you register at the next meeting. The expiration date on your membership card will be 12/2008. If you do not register again until 3/2009, your expiration date will be 12/2009, not 3/2010. Your anniversary is always 12 months from the month you first register. The majority of people will register in January as we have been following a calendar year schedule. This will address the people that join in October, pay there $25.00 and then be asked to pay again in January. There has been a grace period, but this will make it fair for all.

If I have not explained the new membership registration policy well enough, please let me know and I will do my best to clear things up.

See you all again in Dec.

I guess I am a lil confused. Just when I think Im getting it how I interpret the next sentence seems contradictory.

So you are saying as of now, regardless of when you joined this year, in order to be an active member in 2008 you need to pay again in January 2008?

But from hereafter when you join, your membership will be 12 months till your next dues are due?

If thats the case I understand. But then you immediately follow saying this will address those that joined in October. From the above logic is what contradicts this understanding for me. It would make a lil more sense if you are allowing those that joined in October of THIS year to be allowed some grace period but I dont understand how its fair by just extending it to January when that's when everyone is usually going to join anyway. But if someone new wants to join in 10/08 there good till 10/09?

I think it would be more fair to include those with active membership now that may have joined late and let them benefit from this new rule as well, seeing how this rule was passed durring there active membership.

The last paragraph is not a question but an opinionated suggestion which may not be in the proper forum to be appropriatly responded to and for that I can understand, but could you answer my questions above where Im confused? Thank you in advance.

-Justin

Btw, I understand the concept of an existing member possibly being late to re-register, therefor would not be credited 12 months out from that time, but rather his original starting date. But are we wiping the slate clean now for existing members to either join this December or January or whenever, and THAT moment will be the new starting date for this new implemented rule?

Airinhere, thanks for the great demo on making your own rock! I was contemplating making some for my tank a few months ago.
Great job

Justin, those that just joined on the old policy are good until 1/2009. So to make this crystal clear, if you joined October of 2007 and after, you are good until 1/2009.

I agree with Justin as I am one of those who joined in October. Will I that group be extended out to next october or will we need to re-up in January?

You beat me to the button, thanks for the clarification. That seems like a much better method. Its a shame i missed the meeting this time. I look forward to the next one though.

BTW, a nice jacket was left behind at last months meeting. There was some discussion between those of us last to leave as to leave the jacket at Round Table or someone take it home. I opted to take it as its a nice jacket and did not want it to disappear. If you can describe it, we will figure out how to reunite you and your jacket.
