Now that everyone is setted down about the logo, and Mothers Day is over. Can we get back to the important issue.
I still have that darn crab in that rock and can't get him out.
:D :D :D (Just trying to lighting the mood again.)
But really, I've tried all weekend to get that monster out. I don't want to destoy that rock, It really is a cool piece of rock. It has an encrusted clam shell on the top. and when the power head push the water around in the tank, the clam open and closes. So I don't want to do anything to break the clam. or put it in anything that will not be good for the tank. I concidered takin the rock to the car wash and trying to power blast him out of there. But since those hoses carry soap and wax, probly not a good idea. I tried the seltzer, I tried dipping the rock in RO water hoping he would climb out. I've shaken the rock trying to shake him out, no good. Lastly I figured I shook all the water out of the rock so I put just a little salt water on the bottom of the tote and put the rock up on 1x1 blocks hoping he would climb out looking for a safe wet place and stay in the water. But no crab. We are figureing that he is a gorrila crab. So I can't use this rock until I know he would not be a danger to the tank when I set it up.

IME, I wouldn't worry about him...let him stay in your tank.

Won't he destroy everything, I realize there is nothing in this tank except rock, But this will go in the 180 when I get it set up. Then it would next to impossible to catch him. These guy tear everything up. Not to mention those little fang teeth scare the h*ll out of me. Are they venemous? I don't know. I figure since I had the chance to get him out, I"d better take it. He may be dead in that rock by now. I would thing after all that. and two days without water. But still a dead decaying crab in the rock would send the cycle over the edge wouldn't it? I don't know, I'm still learning all of this. Thats why I have good friends like you!

You could try the fresh water dip again, but raise the pH really high, or something other chemical to either entice it out or kill it if it stays in it too long. Or poke at it with a screw driver or something.

I don't understand now. I thought if something is dead you need to get it out of the tank ASAP. And if this guy is still alive, wouldn't he destroy all the corals and fish I will put in the tank?
And trying to figure out where a crab the size of a quarter, in a 180 gal tank, with 200lbs of rock and hopfully a nice mixed reef going, is hiding, and catch him. Well that is more fun than I think I could handle.

I've lost countless fish over the years crabs and shrimp and snails and even a 6" clam was gone for a weekend came home and not much left of it. after the tank is set up and cycled expecially a 180 it won't bother any thing as long as you have enough live rock go skimpy on live rock and you will always have problems.
jmo.

I would epoxy him in the hole. lol in 10,000 years an archaeologist somewhere will wonder how a gorilla crab managed to get sealed into his tomb by epoxy. :D AquaMend to the rescue

If it were me I would try temp changes...like boiling water shot into the hole or leave his rock out of the water, but keep the clam submerged, he won't stay exposed to the air forever.

Any way you can bust off a very small area just where the clam is and not destroy the overall rock? Then you could have a lot more options on getting it out.

is he even alive any more?
what about getting a big fishing hook, sticking it and there, spin it around.
see if you can't spear him and drag him out.

Well tried for a few hours last night, With rock being so big, I'm wondering if he doesn't have himself a nice size cave in there, and it is holding just enough water for him to survive. I've tried poking zip ties in there but no response. I figured I would at least **** him off. So he may be dead. I'm going to take my big rock over to a friends house and see if the power washer wouldn't get him out. hopfully we don't break the clam.
Doc, I see what you are talking about.. in just the couple days the rock has been out the clam is seeming more brittle. I guess I will powere wash him out today. Hopfully, and fill the tote up later with RO water and soak it for a while, maybe a very long while. Even though I like Jack ideal too.
