ok. so yesterday i spent 14 hours tearing down my 100gal chiclid tank to start my fowlr tank . what a job but so far i've got 120lbs aragonite sand and all the water in all pumps filters and powerheads are running. today[sunday] i pick up the live rock and start aquascaping.however i was wondering if my protien skimmer is supposed to produce some many bubbles or is this something that is normal with new water, anyway i'm off to my LFS toget my rock:D

Are you talking about microbubbles in your tank?

If so this is normal however there are ways to mitigate this while the skimmer is breaking in. Is the skimmer in a sump?

Regards,

Pat

Like with what the others said, it is normal for your skimmer to act weird during the break in period. You can adjust the skimmer to skim a little dryer so you don't get all those bubbles.

thanks for the skimmer sugestions, turning the flow down a touch did the trick . also when i picked up my live rock i giot the added bounus of some mushroom polys[bright green] and a feather duster and some kind of spindly looking starfish which i doubt will survive in a new tank.
