When I was putting the collection cup on, I cracked the upper lip acrylic is 3 places and shards went flying through the air:( I feel sick about it...Geo is going to take it back and fix it like new again though. Not sure if the skimmer will be here in it's entirety for the pizza night.

Holy crap batman! I don't know what's sicker, the size of that skimmer or the fact that you broke it already!

It takes a big guy to admit he screwed up THAT BAD on a new toy. I would have blamed it on the dog! I bet very few folks here would have questioned, "Bogie ate it" :D

Cool skimmer though. I have skimmer envy. :)

Skimmer is 5 feet tall. Main chamber is 18" cell-cast acrylic by 3 feet. It will be run with an Orca needlewheel pump, Alita 40 linear piston air pump and Iwaki 40rlt feed pump.

I feel sick about cracking it...I didn't think I put too much pressure on it when turning the cup on and pop, pop, pop....wasn't sure what was popping until one popped off right at me:eek2:

Yep, the nylon wing nuts are what hold the two pieces of the body together...but, it doesn't really need to come apart there except for shipping purposes. The flange that turns on the top is where it is a quick-disconnect and that is where I torqued it too much causing the acrylic to snap...too much strength in these here hands:D

As for when it will "all" be back in my basement, that is up to Geo and what he has to do to it to get it fixed.

Yes, you is right;)

I thought I read somewhere that the Orca pump isn't really designed for tall skimmers. Please correct me if I'm wrong, I'm sure Geo has it all covered.

I will be using an Alita linear piston air pump in addition to the Orca and the feed pump.
