Wait a minute. Do you mean that you are going to attach the screen to the canopy (basically run the screen in a vertical fashion)? I thought you meant that you were going to just set a small piece over the tank in a (horizontal fashion). If you are doing it the first way that I mentioned, then I'm sure it'll be fine.
Yup, across the back opening. Although I am also going across the bulbs with the same nylon screening, so my corals (that have been under PCs for 2 years) will not be shocked by the T5s.
Best idea that I've heard of for acclimating the corals to higher lighting came from A. Calfo. He suggests using the nylon screen and wrapping it around a frame (piece of eggcrate) and then securing it to the frame. You make a few of these to put under each light and all you do is remove one of them every week. Very gradual way of acclimating and you can tailor it to your specific needs by adding more screen frames or using less.
My 6 lights (bulbs) are mounted in 2s. You think I could remove that from 2 at a time? I actually have all the materials. I was just gonna double or triple the sheets of nylon screening & tack it a couple of inches under the lights.
