nutri-sea water...

My LFS is selling this in 4.6/gal jugs. Is it legit? I know natural sea water when collected in a clean area has got to be a benefit to my reef tank. They make many claims as to it's content, enriched with rotifers and such. What I don't understand is that the shelf life is 1 year. It's 15 bucks a shot, it does have 420/cal, 1275mg, ph 8.3 and all the minors are egual to NSW. Is it worth it? I do weekly partials with syn salt and ro/di water.
Thx, sunny d.

My LFS owner is as honest as they come and NEVER tries to sell me anything. He will even tell you how to modify or DIY to stuff to save money, when he could see you a product to take care of your needs.
That being said, he is swearing by the live water you are speaking of. Not only does he swear that the corals that don't sell quickly are happier, but that when he gets his new corals in from shipping they are opening many times faster than in the past and with in minutes of dumping some of this live water in.
I have used it at home and my corals put out their feeding tentacles with in minutes of dumping it in.

I have noticed a difference also, within minutes my polyps also react possitively. I started adding nutri water every other weekend, I have toyed with using it every weekend until the majority of my tank has as close to 100% of the additive as possible. The specific gravity of the nutri water is 1.027, which is a bit higher than mine which is 1.0255. Do you think there is an advantage of keeping it higher?

Specific gravity

Specific gravity

I'm new to the REEF part of the aquarium hobby.... lifestyle, and don't feel qualified to comment on the best specific gravity. One additional benefit of this water MAY be supplementation of growth related components that some people supplement like magnesium. At the same time I don't know how much of these are in this water, or even if they truely are that helpful for growth/ health of your corals.

Rotifers and such are simply not surviving a year without being fed, heck they aren't surviving a week without being fed. Odds are good that the "benefits" being seen by those using it are simply the benefits of using NSW.
