Nuvo 8 SPS Reef

Nemos Boss

I have a IM Nuvo 8g AIO that i plan to switch over to sps dominant. Im currently keeping a few BN, but id love a millie or maybe an acro. My lighting will be upgraded next week to 12 Cree leds suspended about 12in i hope. I am running a Fluval G3 series canister filter. I do my weekly deal. Its been nice so far. I also have a RKL, SL1 and ALC. ALC controls sunrise/sunset affect. My temp hasnt moved since adding this and having an awesome AC unit nearby.

I plan to keep Nemo. I do my weekly change of 2.5 gallons at exactly the same salinity and temp.

Should i spend the money on an mp10, plumbing a sump to add water volume or a doser? Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for lookin :)

The more water volume you have with SPS the more stability you will achieve, and the greater success you will likely have. The challenge with a smaller SPS system (I haven't done it, speaking in theory and based on what I've read) would be to keep water parameters stable. Any small change will have a ripple effect throughout the system, and SPS love stability in terms of water parameters, Alk, Ca, salinity etc. I wouldn't worry about minimial temperature swings within reason (i.e. a couple of degrees either way) as long as they aren't occuring drastically. If you are serious about having SPS, and willing/able to afford plumbing in a sump, than I would suggest going that route. You will give yourself slightly more room for error.

A sump will be a nice addition, allow you more water, plus hide equipment, put in media bags if you want, maybe even a small refug on reverse lighting cycle from display to eliminate day/night alk swings which has to be a benefti in a nano. Not sure about your Fluval canister filter long-term, if you do incorporate a sump you may want to also add a small protein skimmer and get rid of the canister filter (I've never used one though). The LED's for lighting should be fine, but I'm not an LED expert. I just switched to LED's but also have T5's. You might want to spend some time in the nano tank forum here on RC, and post your plans there, I'm sure you would get some more feedback from the nano experts that will likely get you heading in the right direction. Likely lots of build threads and tank profiles to give you ideas as well.
