Nuvo Int - True bean animal?

Hello,

I am in the process of setting up my plumbing for a new glass 180. I came across the following link and am confused as to why they call it a bean animal system.

Please see the pictures on that link.

1. Doesn't the bean animal secondary drain need to be a durso with a tee and a hole in the top that can be covered to trigger a full siphon?

2. What is the tee on the main drain for?

3. If tuned correctly, can you omit the durso on the secondary pipe and still have it be silent?

1-No.. When the water level is higher than the pipe it will go full siphon anyways..
2-I'm not sure the point of that T on the full siphon channel..
Maybe the extension helps remove detritus that may settle in the bottom of the overflow box?
Or just to keep the water from being "stagnant" down there.

3-yes you don't need an elbow on the secondary channel.. If tuned properly the water flow should be very little and only cling to the walls of the pipe and not collapse and suck air down..

Thank you, kind sir, for the quick response! You just made my life a little easier. I will try setting this system up with three upright pipes in my overflow box rather than route a bunch of elbows around.

Just noticed...
I should have put "sufficiently higher than the pipe" for #1...
The elbow really eliminates the requirement to have it "sufficiently higher than"...
I would use the elbow on the secondary channel.. The elbow is a smart move..
Its one piece.... There is no "bunch of elbows" needed here.. Just 1 more..

I get what you're saying. I'll go back to my original plan for the secondary and put two elbows to make a "œU" facing down and then drill a 1/4" hole above the water line.

I've been reading about Just drilling the hole but I figured a hose above the water line could get clogged too and I would just need to check it periodically.
