Nyos 220 on a 120g?

Got a 120g with 50ish gallon sump. After rock and substrate displacement, I expect to have roughly 120-130 gallons of water in my system.

Tank came with reef octopus super XP-3000int. Which is just too large, takes up way too much space and not very energy friendly. I had a nyos 220 offered to me for $100. Seems like a decent price, but while doing my research it seems like they have alot of issues. I'm also thinking it might also be over kill for my build?

Last tank was a 90g and it had a bubble magus curve 7 elite. That thing was great, so I considered using the curve 9 elite on the 120g or maybe even just sticking to the curve 7 again.

Any thoughts here or recommendations on a budget friendly skimmer? The key here is budget friendly and can't have a huge footprint. So no external pumps.

I've been using an OLD eShoppes S-120 for years now on tanks ranging is size from 40 gallons to 92 gallons and have no complaints.

Found an eshopps axium X-160 for $100 and a eshopps S-200 for $200 used locally. Need to dig deeper for more info on them. I plan to have a pretty heavily stocked tank and full of mixed corals, but heavier on the SPS side.

Eshopps skimmers got sold, been on the hunt for others now. Everything I find is either rated for 100g or 150g heavy bio load. So which would be considered my best option here... tank will have a nice sized refugium eventually, heavily dominated sps and a decent amount of fish. Have a few im currently looking at now.

Bubble magus curve 9 elite 150g heavy bio load.

Aquaready ConeS q2 130g heavy bio load.

Maxspect jump sk400 100g heavy bio load.

The nyos 220 might still be on the table, but it's used and not been running for awhile. Not 100% sure of the condition, but I can grab it from the guy for $100. Might be worth it, but it's a hell of a drive going to get it and still not sure about this skimmer.

I think the biggest thing is checking the pump impeller and making sure the skimmmer body has no cracks or dried out o-rings or similar.

Have asked him before for more pictures and a couple questions, but had no response. Have s feeling it's gone now.

So now I need to figure out another skimmer option. I like the bubble magus skimmers, but keep thinking that the curve 9 elite will be too big.

The aquaready I hear has some issues with over skimming. Possibly the pump being too much for that skimmer. Can't find too many honest reviews on it.

The only skimmer I’ve ever used (on my own reef) was a Reef Octopus 150 INT. I had it on my 65 and I feel it overskimmed so I took it off. At the LFS I worked at in the past used Deltec on their displays and had a seaclone 150 and coralife 65 operating for demonstration purposes.

Looking at the Curve 9 it shows for up to 400 gallons. I might consider the Curve 7. It’s for up to 240 gallons.

That said I’ve never heard of Aquaready and can’t say I’ve seen much on the Jumps either.

The curve 9 elite is rated 150g for heavy bio load and the curve 7 elite is 100g heavy bio load.

I had the curve 7 elite on my last 90g tank and it worked great. That tank had about a 30g sump with refugium.

This new tank is 120g, about 50g sump and refugium.

So I only need slightly larger and don't want to get a skimmer that is truly undersized after my tank is fully stocked. From the curve 7 to curve 9 is a rather big jump though.

Aquaready is rebranded aquamax.
