Other hvac guys (Dave) if you know chime in too.

No brainer, but I can just cut this and move it back along the same line right? Will a dremel suffice as my cutting tool? And the tube looks to have a "nipple" where the down vent hooks on. How do I bend my newly cut piece to let me slip the down vent onto it?

You can do anything you like Brian.:D

I use a crimping tool to crimp the pipe but I have used needle nose pliers to do it in a pinch.

I would use some offset snips to cut the pipe. A dremel will probably take quite a while to cut it and may make for some nice metal shavings but if you feel froggy......

Wear eye protection if you use the dremel.

Uhhh, I'm not taking your temperature.:eek1:

Off set snips, crimping tool, me no got. I do have a dremmel and plenty of stupidity. Goggles are for wimps :D but I also have plenty of those.

dbuesking- if you happen to be driving by this weekend and want to save me some trouble and money on tools I'll never use again.......

I'm gonna wait and see if Dave can stop by, if not I'll make another trip to Lowes for the proper tools. They should probably have direct access to my bank acct by now.

I know I'll get flamed for suggesting this but if you only need to make one cut.... ahem.... check out Harbour Freight search for AVIATION TINNER SNIP on line. They don't have the price on the site but they are like $4.00. Not what you want for an every day use tool but for that it will probably "Cut it"

Bah! Don't get those Cheap Harbor Freight tools!

Ok, had to do it to you Faz! I use LOTS of HF stuff, especially for stuff like this, one time use and probably never touch it again. I have found most of the tools they sell work fine in the short term, meaning the first few times, before they dull, break, booger up, etc. I would definitely recommend that option for this project.

That hurts Robbie....

Let those that have no HF tools in their toolbox cast the first pipewrench!

I held out from buying their stuff as long as I could but they just kept sending me the weekly specials and I finally broke down.

Just a note if you don't cut sheet metal much. People that do it all the time make it look easy but its a skill that could cost you a lot of blood if you are not careful. I tried to be careful and still gave blood, as I cut around the pipe it wraps around on your hand and bam. Heavy gloves may be harder to work in but they will keep the blood where it belongs.

Just my 2 cents.

You know I was only messing with you right Faz? Speaking of which, I DO have the set of four pipewrenches, $9.99 from HF in my tool box too! A very good deal to as seldom as I need pipe wrench, even just to throw! :D

Good advice on the gloves too, that sheet metal gets me good about every time I touch it.

"You know I was only messing with you right Faz?"

You? Mess with someone?

Wouldnt have it any other way!
