O-ring lubricant?

I use Aladdin Teflon Based lubricant/ sealant. The brand name is "Magic Lube" It is for hot tubs and spas. It says environmentlly safe and corrosion free. Is this good or is there something better. I'm pretty sure that the main thing is that it doesn't contain silicone, right?

I use a product called Plumber's Grease. Food safe. I know Euro reef makes a product as well. I coat all my O rings and bulk head gaskets with it, never an issue to date. Been using it for abut 5 years.

plain old vaseline works well, too.

I would look into the vaseline use to be sure it's good to use. I've heard that you're not suppose to use all the time. Something about possibly causing bad algea? I may be wrong, Just something I heard. Just wondering if anyone heard anything bad about "Magic Lube"?

Try Olive Oil. There is nothing that can hurt the reef in olive oil.

Food safe doesnt guarantee reef safe. Our tap water is food safe but I cant put it in my reef tanks.

I used silicone grease for years when I ran canisters on both salt and freshwater tanks with no problems. It's non-toxic, won't break down gaskets and only takes a tiny dab. Vaseline is petroleum jelly, which can damage rubber gaskets and I don't imagine is too good for the tanks inhabitants either.

I have used valvoline for years, but have heard it deteriorates the rubber. I don't know if it is true?????

Doesn't silicone leach into your system? seems like it could promote algea. I was told to stay away from anything containing silicates.

No, They use silicon to hold together glass tanks.
Just make sure it is 100% silicon grease.

Vasaline for the O-ring that will eventually wear out anyways.
The O-ring that probrobly cost a dollar to replace and that you should have a spare on hand anyways.

I myself have used vasoline but switched over to either silicone oil or silicone grease whatever I have on hand, no complaints :) I know plenty of people that use petroleum jelly (vasoline) but as stated (and to my knowlege) it can be damaging to rubber

10W30 conventional or are you trying the new synthetics? LOL

You want silicone grease, and no it does not leach silicates into the system, where do people come up with this stuff?

I have used olive oil, vasoline (not valvoline, except in my car) and the silicone by far is the best and lasts plus it is safe.

Guess I should scroll to the bottom before I post:D

I know Hop...it was too good to pass up. :D

Sorry Arthur...you gotta take them when they are there...they may never come back again. lol I attribute the valvoline to being early in the morning and the brain not firing on all cylinders.

I guess I should take a second look at my spell check choice before I post. I meant Vaseline. :)
