So, I picked up a Rock Band Special Edition-Bundle Pack for my stepson the other day. My question is, would it be wrong of me to "test" the game out for a few days (read: right up to Christmas eve), just to make sure that every thing's working correctly? I mean, I'd hate for him to open it up on Christmas morning only to be disappointed because I didn't work. If you think about it that way, it would be irresponsible of me to not try it out.

Besides, my wife dismantled my Tupperware drum kit on thanksgiving to store all the leftovers...

Any respectable stepfather would ensure the quality and soundness of a gift first. There is nothing worse than opening a gift on xmas day only to find out its broken and all the stores are sold out of it!

You best test it out ASAP before a replacement can't be found. ;) ;)

There are some known issues with the hardware and down loadable patches, so you MUST check it out to make sure.

If you have Live then any updates needed will be downloaded automatically when you launce the game while logged into Live.

The responsible thing would be to have a wrapped gift for your son. (Hopefully a gift he would prefer.) But if you tested it and then wrapped it so that he had something to unwrap for Xmas, I would see no problem.

The responsible thing would be open the x-box to verify the functionality of the system. When you learn how playing video games promotes obesity - you should keep the game so that your stepson doesn't get fat. Now - that's a good dad!

PS - I tested out all of Sierra's scuba gear before giving it to her. I needed to test her "life-support" system was functioning safely. :D

John - do the right thing. I hear there is potential wrist damage from excessive playing, and how would you feel if you contributed to your son's potential wrist pain by not making sure its safe first? To me its not even a question - the alternative is simply irresponsible. ;)
