Hey guys/gals of RC,
A few of you know me, my name is Morgan, I'm a junior marine science major at Occidental College in Eagle Rock. I work in several labs here at Occidental, including the marine research lab, and I've taken over the biology department's Head Aquarist position, officially, as of a few days ago. I'd been promised this position for some time, so I've been trying to accumulate as much relevant reefing stuff as I can (rocks, etc) over the past few months. Several of you have been incredibly generous with things like free rock (thanks Mavilez!) and softies (Dave B!), and gotten a few tanks started throughout the biology department.
However, now I am thrilled to be finally be the person in charge of designing, running, maintaining, etc., ALL of the tanks, which is the reason for this post--if anyone would like to donate livestock to a few tanks (one is a 100 gallon display, one is a 29 gal biocube and another one is a 14 gal biocube), I'm planning a sort of Wall of Fame in the zoology lab for donors. We don't have a huge budget--most of that goes into the actual research projects--so donations are a huge help. Sometimes I'll be able to scramble up some department funds, particularly if things break/need to be replaced.
If anyone is interested in donating any coral or drygoods (we could use a few heaters, powerheads, and maybe some lights in the next few months), and want to see their name up in the Occidental bio building, PM me or text me--my number is 1(916)420-0029.
I'd also like to set up a new tank, in the 60-120 gal range, in the zoology lab, so if anyone has any leads on something like that, I would be most appreciative as well.
I've attached a few pics of the invertebrate lab, where we have four tanks I would like to overhaul: a 110, 2 biocubes, and a pretty large frag-flat type tank that is a mess right now.
As I go, I'll update this thread for anyone who is interested.
Thanks everyone! The Southern California RC community never ceases to amaze me. I'd like to create lab spaces where students are inspired to pursue more marine and invertebrate science--I certainly wouldn't be where I am today without a little tankspiration along the way--and if anyone wants to join in and be a part of it, you are most welcome to.
-Morgan
