Occupant Ideas for 24G Nano Cube?

Very tempting on the multis. Those are what I wanted at first but they were $20 each. I lucked out on the lamprologus and got three for $4 each at PetSmart, of all places. That seemed better than $60 at Aquarium at the time. My son is wanting to set up a tank and that would be a cool first one. I might have to look into that this weekend. I have a 10G complete Eclipse setup ready to go and a 20G long tank that would just need a filter (or a minor repair to my Eheim cannister filter) to be operational. Hmmm...

I went by Aquarium at lunch and the multis were $12.99 each. Still a good deal. Not quite ready to buy 3 for my son, though -- he'd be just as happy with a few mollies.

I like gobies because they're tiny, peaceful, colorful, and have lots of personality. I do not like aggressive fish nor do I like tanks that contain aggressive fish. It's just that I prefer to live blissfully ignorant and think that all animals live in harmony and none ever die.

Well, it's two months later and the tank is doing well. In addition to the two yasha gobies, I have a purple firefish and a neon goby. I also just added a Hector's goby. Theoretically I have two green gobies and a yellow goby, but they have disappeared almost as soon as I added them.

The yashas have broken up and I only see one of them now. I haven't seen the other one or the shrimp in a while, but I still hear the shrimp popping so I know they are back in there somewhere. The Hector's goby now actually shares a hole in the rock with the one yasha -- althrough he pushes him around a little. The purple firefish is out in the open all the time as is the neon goby. That, along with the two gargantuan nassarius snails (as big as a turbo) I just added, guarentees something is always moving around.

damsels are great, buttercup thinks they're delicious. just throw a couple of those puppies in the fuge with her before we head out for vacation, and its like an auto feeder. when she gets hungry enough, they'll become a tasty treat.

Scott, if all of those fish every come out at one time, you will have a very colorful tank. It sounds like it is working for you and for the fish also.

Also, I may be adopting out or trading out starfish soon. Apparently the hordes of little starfish in my tank are not so little anymore. Some have a total arm-tip to arm-tip diameter of 3" or so and are beginning to be quite active. I am thinking these are not your standard small brittle stars but rather the "offspring" of my old starfish (the one with the silver-dollar sized head and 12" tentacles). I understand that some starfish can self-propagate without a mate around. Their coloration is similar on top to my old one, but I have yet to see any of the dark red on the bottom that he had. I'll see if I can get pics of some of them soon.

If anybody wants to trade zoanthid frags for a few of these guys, I am fair game.

Dang. The hidden Yashi is out and about now, but something has damaged his fins on the bottom -- he can't hold on to things and just blows around when he gets in the current. When he does find a resting spot, he just sits there and gasps and doesn't look for a bolt-hole. Not sure he'll make it through the night the way he looks. The other fish look to be leaving him alone, so not sure what did that too him. Perhaps a mushroom or pest anemone tried to eat him?

Also, I've had this plant growing slowly in my tank for a year now. Any idea what it could be? It seems to be just short, straight green "grass". My starfish love hosting in it.

You can bring him over to my tank if you want to Scott, assuming he does ok overnight.

No dead bodies floating around last night or this morning, but no sign of him, either. I assume he found his way back into a hole.

Thanks for the offer to house him, but I'd probably have to take apart the entire tank to capture him. He still had some energy left. Everybody else in the tank is doing fine. I'll post any further sitings. I wish I could figure out what messed him up. My best guess at the moment is the other yashi.

It's pretty weird too since they were housed in a teeny cube for about a while (3 weeks?) before entering your tank.

Scott I started with a small amount of that algea and it goes crazy!! Had to break down my tank & Get rid of alot of Rock.

I've had that small bit of algae for almost a year now and it has spread very little. I tried to pull some free and it was like pulling apart a t-shirt -- very tough. I poked the free piece into a shell, but it doesn't seem to grown much. Odd algae. I had razor calurpa that about overgrew my entire 75G tank if I let it go un-pulled for a month. Compared to that, this stuff I have now is "yellow dog".
