Oceanic 58 Gal RR - Suggestions

I've got the 58 Gal (36" wide) Oceanic with about a 2.5-3" sandbed. There is about 400 GPH flow from my overflow return that pretty much goes across the surface. I had a Seio 820 on the left, and a Seio 820 on the right. The magnet cracked and needs to be replaced.

I'm going to have a much larger tank here shortly (180+ gallons), and will likely be installing Tunze's in that tank. I figured a good way to start out would be to replace my current failing Seio's in my 58 gallon.

Does someone have a recommendation for me on this size/setup?

The turbelle electronics would be good for that tank. But I would recommend the standard streams for your 180. So with that in mind you could go with either one or two Stream 6000's and a single or multicontroller. Personally I think you can get away with just one 6000 and a single controller on your 58g since you have your return to help out.

Sorry, I meant to add, I was looking specifically at the streams at this point, unless there is a reason to look at something else.

Thanks for the input. Can you dial the 6000 down enough it won't cause a massive sandstorm in my 58? My 180+ tank will probably be BB.

Anyone else?

I can't recommend Streams based on tank size and inhabitants the proper solution is a 7400/2.

I agree with Roger. You're better off getting the stream pumps for your 180. They will be way too much for your current system.

I've got 2-6000's on a multicontroller in my 58 and I don't think it is too much at all! Granted, I'm only running them up to about 60% but everthing loves them. They will be cranked to 100% when they go into the 115 though.

I was confused as well on this. Turned down, they have less output than my 2 Seio 820's that I already have :hmm2:

Hi,

The idea flow is the turbelle electronics like Roger suggested. However, you will want streams if you go to a larger tank like a 180, so that's why I suggested the 6000. I've seen people use 6000's on tanks as small as 40 gal breeders. IMO you would have to play with the positioning but I think you could get it to work - if you angle the stream towards the surface it will help keep the majority of the flow away from the sand bed, and get more flow via deflection to various parts of the tank.

Ratings and reality are a totally different story. If you had all SPS I could see using one 6000. It will destroy the frogspawns.

i ran a 7300 and 7200 turbelle in my tank w/ an OM 4-way unit. i was getting about 46x's turnover. now i just upgraded my 7200 to a 6000 stream. i can turn it on FULL blast and not move any sand.

granted i run an all SPS tank though. softies or LPS like frogspawn would be gonners.

if you are upgrading soon i would get the streams and just run them on a controller turned down. you can always up the flow in the big tank when you get it up and running

That's what I did. Now when they're in stock and shipping is another matter ;)
