Since I have a RO/DI unit know YEAH

I will be mixing my own salt water this weekend, instead of using catalina water.

The question is a have a jug of Oceanic that I was thinking of using up and was wondering if anyone thinks that would be ok for a few water changes. I think i remember that most of the people in this forum did not us oceanic?

Thanks for the help

Great I will do my first water change this weakened without having to lug 14 gallons of water around

i have heard that the levels on that salt is really bad and you have to supplement a lot is this true plus isnt the calcium off the charts

yes the calcium isnt good on it..and i know when i had oceanic my pH was always low, and now that i'm on IO its back up..but i know others use it and like it...i personally dont like it, but if it works...the only reason i got the oceanic was cuz i got 2 50 gal. jugs of it for like, 12 bucks at atr when i got it.

If anything the calcium is a big high and the alk is a bit low. I mix with IO and get a great combination.

i do the samething with out any problems.

mixing it is a good idea to get the high calcium but also get the consistency of IO and bring the level up in oceanic

So since there is mixed opinions on the oceanic. I will mix some today and take readings tommarow. Let ya know what happens.

Dont know if this is a good time to ask, But I have been using B-Ionic Calcium Buffer the 2 Componet jugs (Alkalinity & Calcium) for about 8 months now. Also Feeding my corals BioPlankton. Any advice on other supplements?

I think B-Ionic is good, and I have used it. I switched to baking soda and dowflakes. In addition, got a lot more fish and fed them better. These cost me a lot less and suit me just fine.

Ok just to follow up.
I went ahead and mixed up 14 gallons of my oceanic. (this is the first time i have mixed my own salt water since i have a new ro/di unit any way here is the results of the test

PH 8.4 (let sit with airstone for 24hrs)
dkh 8
calcium 420

So I did this not to make any opinions on oceanic just wanted to see if it was worth using up before I bought something diffrent.

is their mix just that inconsistent then? my levels were quite different when i was using it...pH was pretty low..7.7 and calcium was quite a bit higher...what sg did you get it to? i always do mine to 1.025, but maybe a lower (or higher) would change levels? idk..just a thought.
