Ocellaris Clown

I have Ocellaris Clown that I would like to try and host. I believe I need to get a carpet anemone, if I am going to be successful. I do have some questions though.

I have a GBTA. Will they attack each other?

Will a carpet attack corals?

I am aware they get very big and that they have one of the worst stings. I do not want to sacrifice my tank just so I can have one. I assume they aren't all that bad since people do have them in their tank.

I do have ro/di water and T5 lights. Thanks for your help.

You don't necessarily need a carpet anemone to get the ocelllaris to host. It could do it in your GBTA. It's not the natural host, but it could work if you just give it time.

I can't be much help other than that since I have never kept a carpet anemone before. Good Luck!

I wouldnt think either anem would "attack the other" Not to say it might not happen either. They may decide to move and find each other which would not be good. No a carpet will not attack corals. If it moves around alot it may sting the hell out of them. I have a Haddoni hosting my Black Ocellaris.

Given the general name of this thread, I hope it is okay to throw my Ocellaris questions here? :)

I just bought a captive bred Ocellaris, it is around 1 1/4"-1 1/2" long...this is my first clown and has been in the tank 4 days. The tank is a 135 gallon reef tank with a sailfin tang and court jester goby.

As far as feeding, what size of portions should I be giving? I have offered chopped up frozen mysis, chopped Formula One pellets(are these too big whole for a fish this size?), and mashed Formula One frozen. I think, but am not 100%, I have seen it eat a couple bits. I know it has taken many in its mouth only to spit out. Do they prefer surface feeding, midwater, or bottom...or all? Would flakes be a better choice?

Is the swimming up and down all over the tank normal behavior, seems to only rest in the evening?

That's a sign of stress in the fish. Let him setlle in and setle down. As far as food goes, try mysis soaked in garlic. Also, find out what the LFS fed him and try that. He should eat after he gets usd to his ne home.

Should they lay on the bottom? Mine sometimes just chills on the bottom of the tank. Mine also does the up and down movement. I think it just depends on his mood.

Anyone else have any thoughts carpet anemones? Are they hard to keep? How fast do they grow? I am afraid it will out grow my 75. From what I hear their sting is not a lot of fun. I am not sure if I would want to wrestle one out of my tank.
