Ocellaris is high! In the tank, that is.

Meet Stewie, our Ocellaris.

He has been in tank for about three months and has really only hung out in the upper half for the entire time. I was wondering if there might be a factor I am not taking into account, other than he likes the view from up there.

He's getting a small friend tomorrow and hopefully the new guy can show Stewie around the tank. There's no anemone, only a torch and hammer. I plan on getting a frogspawn, mostly cause I like the way they look but also in hopes it gives them a place to hang out. Any suggestions or insights are welcome!

Your tank is perfect for a Malu. Read about it, get one and you will be happy (and your clowns).

It may look a little like a BTA in that particular picture but it is a male Malu. I had him for 12 years.

Here he is spawning:

They look like they are really hardy once the settle in but are unstable until then. Being new and occasionally leaving my wife in charge for a couple of months, I'm not sure that I want to take on a delicate critter.

You are right. If your wife is anything like my wife in term of reef competent, you are right indeed.

Got Stewie a friend and I think they have explored most of the tank. I also got a Duncan coral that will hopefully fill in as an anemone. Either way, they seem much better off now.

My davinci clowns have made their home in the top 4 inches of the tank the entire time.

They hang out around and behind the heater. I have RBTA, and frogspawn, and they won't go anywhere near them.

They never attempt to jump tho, for that I am thankful

I have a malu, but my ocellaris clownfish show no interest in it. The malu seems happy, but the clownfish hang out in the back of the tank behind the rocks unless it is feeding time.
