This is getting nuts, my 6 yr old pair of oc's is smokin' hot :smokin: They used to be on a 13-14 day cylcle, the eggs hatched on day 8 and I could get 50-60 larvae past met. About 4 nests ago they went to 12 days and I suddenly got 400 past met :eek1: Then 11 days and I have another 4-500 going thru met now that hatched 50/50 on days 7&8 , and 11 more days and I have close to 1000 that all hatched on day 7!!!!! Tonight they put down a new nest, NINE days after the last one  Are these guys hot or what????

wow that is awesome..out of curiosity...how big is your pair? My pair is four years old..the female is 4.1" and the male 3 even...big for Ocellaris I think...

David, the big question that I think we'd all have to ask is WHAT were you doing and what did you CHANGE? Very cool...I'm started to get REAL frustrated with this whole "larval rearing" thing..I'd probably be better off just pairing up fish, getting them to spawn and selling them off ;)

Congrats!

I can't think of a thing that changed except maybe the fact that I am now using more NSW than made water, but that was reaction to the sudden need for more water, not the cause of it. I think the pair has just matured and are in full production, like everything up to now was just "practice". I fear it can't last though, my gsm's produced a few consecutive nests in the 1000's and then just quit, been two months now since the last spawn. The other thing may be that now it's Spring here and not getting so cold at night, the system temp is up a degree or two from 78ish to more like 80+, that could be it but this happens every year and this is the first time I ever had nests like this.
I haven't "measured" the fish, how did you do that? Female is large but I have seen some bigger, male is the same, big but not a giant.

I have had the same happen too me. I am just starting out (have five,28 day old, babies from my second try). my pair of GSM had been laying eggs every 21 days. after i took the first lot out there were new eggs in only 13 days. now after the second round i removed, they have laid new eggs in only 10 days..not sure what they are thinking...hehe

My clowns laid the eggs on the glass wall in my main tank. How do you take them out? Can i use my turkey baster sucking them out? Thanks

No, you will have to let them hatch in the tank and collect them, do a search for "larvae snagger". Or maybe Kathy will see this and give you the link to the right thread.
