Ocellaris vs Percula

Is there really a difference other than the fins? I mean as far as keeping them goes, is there a difference in compatibility, care? Which one in your opinion is better?

Neither. I prefer true perculas. That's just personal preference. I can't think of anything that makes them better than Ocellaris.
As far as care, if both are tank raised they are about the same. However, wild caught true perculas tend to come with diseases more often than Ocellaris. As such they require a more stringent QT protocol.

They are quite different.

In my experience ocellaris are a bit less aggressive. Also they grow faster. And they are in my opinion much hardier once acclimated.

The biggest difference is the coloration and it's variability. While percula are highly variable in their black component this is pretty constant in ocellaris.
Percula also tend to have a nicer orange than ocellaris.

I like them both but concentrate on percula these days.

As ThRoewer said, there is a difference.

However, really, imo the difference is not enough to act as a basis for a decision. It's just whatever appeals to you more, really. Of course, that's imo. For you, that difference may be of major importance, of course. :)

Get one of each lol

I had a pair of ocellaris and lost one to a bad accident. It was the female.

My daughter and wife bought a super tiny clown for my birthday. It is a percula. As its grown over the past 8 months or so the two are starting to act like a pair. I imagine my male is now and probably has been for a while now a female and the juvi is maturing.

I keep thinking they will spawn soon the way they've been acting recently.

To be honest with you. I wasn't going to get a clown. This is a 40 breeder. I was thinking more of wrasses. But wife n kids want clownfish. I am sure you can guess why. So I need to make them happy so my hobby is not frowned up.
