Hey guys...

I am thinking about getting Barry from ClamsDirect to spaek with us in Oct.

What is the interest out there? The meet may be held a UNE or somewhere in southern ME if BRS is willing to kick in some funds... that is all in discussion, nothing frim yet there.

I think this one we would ask for an enterance fee (excluding current members) to help with the costs...Also major promotions of the event

I'm definitely interested... woohoo a good saltwater seminar and then shopping, shopping, shopping in southern ME! OMG, I am such a rural hick.. LOL

Sorry to be non-responsive, but I know nothing about the guy or what he might tell us. Can you be more specific?

CLAMS:p

I asked him to send a short bio.... also asked if BRS is interested in him as well but not sure they are able to commit right now....

sorry, too!
I just can't do the traveling from Bangor.

sounds interesting.. just not enough for me.
don't take it personally thou

I wasn't too interested at first, I don't really have the lights for clams. But after seeing that Bio I think I'm in. They guy looks really down to earth, and that clam he's holding, awesome...

Driftwood,
I keep a clam with just power compacts and it is thriving...you don't say what your lights are, but if you have at least that much, and no fish that munch them, you could give it a try.

I've been told that, but didn't want to watch it waste away. I may give one a try after listening to this speaker. I have a 260w PC setup.

Barry is top-notch! I met with him at Macna after exchanging some emails. Even if you don't currently keep clams, you will learn a LOT from him, and it is definately worth the trip.

After my first order of clams from clamsdirect, I was so impressed with the entire process that I've incorporated much of their finesse in to how I deal with my customers in the construction industry. The customer service and appreciation shown by Barry & Sherry Neigut is a very unique experience. They are true ambassadors to the hobby. They held my hand through everything, to the point that my primary interest after 12 years of reefkeeping is now CLAMS!!

Plus, he knows more about clams than anyone else I've ever met. :)

Excellent choice for a speaker, Denise! I'll be there for sure.

I too kept a Deresa under PCs for a while, it then outgrew the tank and I put it in the 210 where I had a couple of MH and a PC... he did okay there, but I got lazy, busy, distracted, call it whatever and I quit feeding 'Denises Delectable Marine Manna'... .. and unfortunatley he is no longer with me.... please visualize my foot kicking my *** over and over and over and my head held in shame :sad1:

Denise

I thought that clams over 3" didn't need to be fed? Is it different with Derasa's because they're not as light dependent as Crocea's or Maxima's?

all the more reason to get a clamm 'expert' up here ;)

According to Daniel Knopp, "it is a common misconception that clams live soley on their symbiotic algae.... clams have a fully developed intestinal digestive tract with digestive glands, bowels etc....fine particles of food are filtered through their gills"

BAsically my recipe is blended up fish, clams, squid, shrimp, shrimp eggs, cyclopeeze, seaweed, garlic, mysids, whatever I have around.... perhaps it is time to have another meet where we make some more... and have a beer or two so we do not notice the smell ;)

Okay, we have tickets for Barry! He will be here from Oct 13-14.... will probably speak at Bowdoin but that has yet to be worked out. Will probably put him up at the Atrium so maybe we can harass him Fri night. He is looking forward to a lobster dinner as well..... anyone interested in tagging along pleas let me know as the time draws near... I expect we will have to make arangements for us all

Sorry it is a bit of a drive for you all from up north, but the airport is in Portland and Brunwick is pretty central.... carpooling is a great idea or better yet make a weekend trip of it, do some shopping in Freeport or P-land a nd hit the LFS down that way!

Let your friends know!
