octo eating his arms?

I arrived home to find my octopus missing a portion of his arms! Has anyone else experienced anything like this before?

This is a common syndrome that is usually fatal. Some people think it is due to an infectious agent; others suggest it is due primarily to stress. Either way, it usually signals the end.
