I want a oct extreme to run in my SPS nano tank, 50G

The 160 is a good option or a 200 / 250 would be better ?

I don´t want to do any mod, I want to use the original impeller

Best Regards

Anything of those will be more skimmer than you need, but that doesn't mean you can use them. Since they are too big, why not go with the 250,300, or 350? I would let money be your determining factor and get the biggest one, in case you upgrade in the future.

i believe my sicce pump came with the white pin wheel...

how much better is the new pin wheel supposed to be?

Charlie - WHERE ARE THE NUMBERS???!!!

edit:

oh i see now...they're in the other thread ;)

Looks like I'll not spend the money on the new wheel and push about 10 more scfh with my current pinwheel that starts right up.

ReefKeeperRob you dont wanna buy the wheel?? you can look at it this way its only 10 more schf or you could look at it as, you spent about 300 on a skimmer why not spend 30 to improve it by 56% i think this is a really good jump!

Rob, I though I was very clear the new pin wheel starts right up, draws 12.6 more scfh than the white pin/w!! I see the others guys understood.. Please let me know what I posted that I should have made clearer..?? NO BS, I do need and what to know so that I can correct the error! ( or are you just tired and misread my post?)

haha it's clear. But I'm like - I'm running mesh right now and pulling 36-38 and it starts right up. Why the heck would I want to shell out more money for a pinwheel? Judging by the price of some of this other skimmer stuff I'm betting they aren't cheap either. Maybe if I start having troubles with mesh in the future I'll get one for piece of mind.

Obviously a huge improvement over the standard coralvue pinwheel though.

Thanks for keeping us up to date Charlie.

For anyone fearing the meshwheel - It really is a very easy modification to make. Just look at the picture sjm49938859er posted a few posts back and make your wheel look close to that and that's about all there is to it.

I will post the numbers here tomorrow also.. So, that my friends here don't have to jump threads to look.. I had over 80 posts, asking me stuff tonight.. and I connected up a new (used) Ballast over my Frag tank! Its all fun!

BTW, they have 200 of them at Reefspecility $30 Great price, good wheel!

edit:

I see why you guys were confused now. I said I'm pushing 10 more scfh with my current pinwheel. I meant to say mesh wheel. My meshwheel is pushing 10 more scfh than the new pinwheel. The new pinwheel definately offers piece of mind though. I may end up buying it for that reason alone.

On the three pin/w shown above:

The white one: 17scfh 19w
The black MSX one : 23.3 scfh 20w
The new purple one: 29.6scfh 21w

One thing I noticed was that this pin/w seems to keep a consistant column of bubbles/ foam.. it is not affected by feedings as much as my mesh wheels are.. I really like this new wheel.. no BS!
The number is lower than my mesh/w , but the best performance is not always with the higher #'s..
I have 2 sicce mesh/w ( 3 if you count the quietone impleller that can fit) ... Just prior to getting this pin/w, I found that I liked one that was doing 32-33scfh over the 40scfh one..

One of the skimmers I have always liked, is the Deltec 701, Its pin/w can do 34scfh, but it works best, when air is throttled down a bit -- to 23scfh! (Deltec puts a Valve on airline just to do this!)
(I have been around many Deltecs in operation) ( spent hours just sitting watching a 702 do its thing.. No BS)

Charlie,
I thought earlier post back in December,January and Febuary by you and Tangtang showed results with the MSX pinwheel were around 28-34 scfh.
Were you doing something different w/pinwheel or air meter at that time?
Just want to make sure before I put out money for new pinwheels.

Thanks
