Octo Extreme Skimmer KO Club

No, it didn't come like that!
It was just really loud, even with the silencer, while running in the bathtub, so I put some in to quiet it down.
Strangely, it didn't seem to slow down the bubble production.

I have the skimmer set up in the sump now, minus the cotton, and it's much quieter in the stand, thankfully!

Quick question for everybody... My wife doesn't like noise at all and whenever I turn off the skimmer to clean it it always starts back up a little loud and then in a few days it seems to get quieter... Sound normal?

By the way the skimmer is getting better each day!!! :D

Mine made a different noise every time it started.. I found it was best to leave it running.
Open the valve all the way, then remove cup.
Make a mark with magic marker, so you can adjusted back to same spot..
it really helped when I was running MW.

Same here except once I feed my tank, the skimmer is about useless for a few hours. The foam head drops to the base of the neck. I just clean the cup during that time. This way I don't even need to re-adjust after cleaning.

I must say I'm very impressed that I don't adjust the skimmer very often. I only rotate about 1/8" if I want to skim a little wetter.

You guys need to check this out. A 300 with an extended neck, Askoll and a Sicce! Crazy nice skimmer!

Trying to dial in the OctoX 200, but it's really sensitive to changing water levels.
Whenever pipe B goes totally under water, the level inside the skimmer changes dramatically!

I need to add a baffle to keep the level the same in the skimmer compartment (it's currently in the return pump area, the only part of the sump large enough to fit it in, and that area varies about 1-1 1/2").

Would drilling a hole into the elbow or upper part of pipe B relieve the back pressure, until I can deal with adding a baffle?

I just removed the B pipe and turned the elbow so half of it is out of the water. I may still drill the hole in the top of the elbow but this seems to be working.

Octopus 2000 needle wheel pump

Hello. Can someone tell me if the Octopus 2000 pump is the same as the Ocean Runner 2500. I am interested in replacing my OR 2500 with an Octopus pump. I would like to know if the fittings are the same and if the impellars are interchangeable. tia.

Thanks for the input!
I'll give that a try! It just gets a little noisy unless the pipe is almost submerged.

Look what I did instead of the B pipe in the last post of the first page of this thread... Def quiet and IMO doesn't put too much back pressure in the piping...

Not "poor" just average...... ;)

 it's just a saying, ;). I really like the idea of sticking askols on all the older large skimmers out there, why buy new acrylic. very cool.

Thanks! That definitely looks worth a try!

Pipe B is NOT to be submerged.. It is best to remove it.
This has been posted since the start on all post's on this skimmer.
Sicce pumps are awesome at making bubbles at very little watt usage. But they are not quiet nor do they handle back-pressure at all.
