Octo Extreme Skimmer KO Club

Has anyone had problems with the sicce pump on the Octo Extreme 200? I turned my skimmer off and the pump never came back on. I can't figure out who to contact or where to turn. I purchased it from a vendor (Reef Specialty) about 6 months ago and they won't reply to my email. Am I just SOL?

It is the holiday weekend, I would cut RS some slack on returning your emails. I would completely disassemble the pump and soak in vinegar solution, be sure not to loose the rubber boot that sits in the motor! You may be able to get the pump to start again by twisting on the volute as well.

The psk can be kind of tricky sometimes. I'm sure the pump will be fine.

Did you get it going? Usually a twist or knock on the pump will fix it. If not take it out and inspect.

I never heard of the keyway breaking but have heard of the pins breaking off. Get yourself a new PPW providing nothing else is broken or replace the pump with a BB3000, you wont regret it.

I just figured out what was wrong!

As above, the keyway on the PPW broke. The PPW would still spin which fooled me into thinking that wasn't the problem. I took everything apart again including pulling the PPW off and found the busted keyway. I replaced with my stock white PW and voila- it works again.

Thanks for the help guys.

Quick question for everyone - how far to you "push down" your collection cup? I stopped pushing it down all the way because it became difficult to get the cup off without spilling...banging my head...etc. I started pushing it back down in tightly and it appears to be creating more bubbles. I was just wondering if anyone else experimented with this as well.

Thanks,
Brian

I push mine all the way down. What you can do is get some aquarium safe silicone and lube the o-ring it will make it come off easier.

so which does everyone like better ppw or red demon? posted my bad luck with the purple above. hoping maybe red was better material or something.

You don't need any lube for the sicce, but then I guess it depends on what you want to do with it LOL

Maynard, how long did you have the ppw before it broke. I have heard great things about the rd, but you have to order the custom reducer that makes it work sooo well from WM. I think it costs about $30 for both plus shipping. I would like to try this setup myself.

Does this mean I'm out of the club?
