Here's the psk1000 on the skimmer. The white 3/4in female adapter is needed to be able to reuse the psk-2000 union. This adds about 3/4in to total length.
Here's why you have to reuse the stock union (the one on the left), it's about 1/2in smaller than the schd 80 union on the right that I picked up to use on the pump.

FINALLY, all 5k posts read. LOL. I picked up a Octo extreme 160 from a reefer on here for $100+20 for shipping. Hope it's a good one. It comes with the PPW. I was about to order a new nwb 110 or NAC6 for my tank. Tired of the remora. He pmed me and said he would sell me his for 100.
Don't know what shape it's in, seen pictures, worried about the pump now. Hate buying used stuff, that has moving parts.
So here are some questions.
Since I am new to this type of skimmer I will be looking for help (lots)
Since it hasn't been ran it over 6 months what should I do first?
Vinegar cleaning, or just toss it in some old saltwater and let it go?
Still need to set up my sump. The footprint says 8x10, the width of my tank is 12. So should I make the area 12x8 or something larger?
Does Marine Depot sell the red devil pw? About to make a large order, with my price matches, and 10% coupon, looking to get a lot.
Will there be a break in period again? Also how will I tell if something is broken? Obviously if something doesn't work, but with the sicce pump I am a little scared now. Finally get to post though, I am so happy. Now, to buy a ton of crap I don't "need" and some I do.

non octo x owner but looking at getting one. i have been watching the for sale here trying to snag a used x 200 but never see any listed. so my theory is that they are that good that nobody really gets rid of them once they get one haha. but really though i just looking for feedback before i buy one. or hopefully find one for sale used. i plan on using it on a 175 or 200 gallon sps system no idea on stock level yet still planning

get a newer model, I read through the 5000 posts and the sicce 2500 pumps, are hit and miss junk. The stock pinwheel sucks, the ppw breaks after a while, but are awesome, they have start up issues if you mesh mod or use the ppw. OVERALL good skimmer, but I would spend the extra hundred or two and get the newer model they have out. Might want something larger if you are going with 175-200 gallons. Is that tank size or total volume? Non the less go bigger, but don't get the extreme 250 or 300 with the sicce pumps as it won't power it and you'll be replacing pumps.

Make sure the hose doesn't kink, or replace it with new hose 3/8" ID from your hardware store.
Sicce 2500 pumps suck
Replace the original pinwheel with a Red Devil Pinwheel
Turn pump horizontal
The purple pinwheel wears out and has start up issues, but performs well
Clean the neck daily with a bottle brush
Take pipe B off or turn to where part of it is sticking out of water to keep back pressure off the pump. The Sicce 2500 doesn't handle back pressure well.
Think that's it. Some people have good luck in 6.5" water depth, some more. Seems easier to adjust with the shallower water.
Performs well stock from what I hear, but MUCH better when modded.
If you have problems with the pump starting try blowing in the air tube.

Ok i have the 300 and it came with the mesh for mod ivr noticed not much talk has involved the bigger models. i will also go to say thete is a huge performance difference with water levels on 8inches of water compared to being higher or lower

I just notice i get bettr skimmate when the skimmer is in 8inches of water. And i havent even done any modifications even thouh my unit came with mesh and 2 yellow pin wheels. All in all i believe this is a very good skimmer

k, ive been running my octo extreme 250 for about one day and a half, and it is in 7-7 1/2 depth of water. it just skips so wet i cant put the rubber cork in cup cause its a constint steam of water coming from plug hole. I have skimmer opened all the way as well. is this just a break in thing or am i in to deep of water?

Is the skimmer new? Is your air line stopped up? Sometimes the air intake can have glue or plastic blocking the hole. Are there bubbles in the skimmer body? What pump/pumps are you running?

as far as that rubber cork, where can someone purchase one, or better that, wut can be used as a drain line from the cup??? on my octo200 i have the hole in the collection cup but not plug or drain line or anything. just wondering what i can get to make this hole a drain line to a bottle or something
