I have an Octopus Extreme 200, running for a couple of months, running stock pinwheel. I tried a mesh-mod on the spare pin-wheel that came with the skimmer, but had start-up issues.

Q1: The pump is pretty loud, is that normal? Is there a quieter replacement pump available?

Q2: I don't get much foam, I have to skim pretty wet to get any skimmate. Are there any adjustments I could make so it I won't have to skim so wet?

Sicce is hit or miss as far s being a loud pump. I had one that wasnt too loud. Mesh will cause start up issues unless done perfectly/conservatively. The bubble blaster 3000 is a great replacement pump for the octo extreme 200, but it is $200. I have one on my 200 and I love. It also came with a 3 year warranty and so far the cust. serv has been dead on. Check out the "Octo Extreme 200 with Bubble Blaster" thread.

Thanks TTC, I don't have enough room in my current setup for the BB pump, so I will be keeping Sicce for now. I guess I will try a different pinwheel, either the purple or red demon and see if it increases my skimmate.

the bubble blaster did not add that much size to my skimmer setup.

I checked out the Octo with BB thread and thought I read that the Bubble Blaster was quite a bit larger than the Sicce. And at $200 for a pump vs $30 for a pinwheel, I will likely try the pinwheel and see what the improvement is like first. Did you try either the PPW or the red demon before you got the BB?

I saw on RS thread, they have new extreme versions with a new body, red acrylic and new sicce pump.

I tried the PPW and I ran many mesh mods on my sicce. Any of the PWs will do just fine, but the BB pumps are definitely better than the sicces, but you have to fork over $200.

Try holding your finger over the intake hole while you blow. Don't complete block the hole, just restrict it some.

i stick something in the sicce to get the wheel to start trying to spin(i use a kebab stick) and when it starts the clank around, blow into the air tube. only way i can start mine up

imo red demon by far. got my ppw at reef speciality & red demon at premium aquatics, i think i saw somewhere that the red demon was no longer going to be available. or a different company bought the rights out for making them. not sure so it wouldnt hurt to search for one

thank you on the avatar.....and ill do some research. thanx for the sites. ill be upgrading to one of these on the sicce pump for a octo 200...its goin on my 125g. so shud be an upgrade from my ETSS reef devil i have now....

Hey guys. I bought an Octo Extreme(160?) at launch and it seems to be finally failing. I see references to another pump other than the sicce. I've always had problems getting it started after we lose power or the pump is turned off.. well now I try for 30+ minutes to prime it and nada.

Is there a good replacement pump I should look at?

This is just a thought, but maybe the bubble blaster 2000 model pump. I have the 3000 on my 200 and it is a lot.
