Octo Extreme Skimmer KO Club

Weldon sounds like the best idea if it works. Probably use the thinner stuff so it wicks in good. Otherwise I think you would have to contact Coralvue directly. :sad2:

i dont care about the visual part of it, simple facts are its hidden in the sump which is in the stand, and it collects crap! so im not worried about the sight of it, i did patch it up with some crazy glue and silicone. all is well so far...but ill do some research, and some research on coralvue....

I forgot to mention that it keeps my PH at 8.2 since I put a hose from outside to the air intake of the skimmer to keep it oxygenated with fresh air.I have too high co2 in my home.

Doing a gate valve "mod" to my Extreme 200, does anybody know the correct size of the exit pipe or the right valve to use? CoralVue just told me its a meteric and didn't know anything else, lol

i have an octo 150. i cleaned it and no longer get microbubbles, pump works fine but there isn't any air, would that be the venturi that is the problem?

Try blowing into the air intake hose. Just a puff of air should get it going. What pump are you using on it? Sounds like the old sicce. I always had startup issues with that pump, so i switched to a BB hy3000, and LOVE IT..Try a blaster.......

Has anyone tried to mod a extreme 160 to a bubble blaster?

I modded my 160 and it turned into a beast. Here are a few pics.

InfernoST,
What's the model # of that bubble blaster ? Can you explain how you connected it to the bottom of the skimmer body ?

I used the BB HY-2000. I threaded out the hole in the bottom to 1" (Must be very careful, I heated the tap so as no to crack the acrylic), removed the volute on the BB and screwed it into the the base of the skimmer then remounted the pump to the volute. The 90 in the bubble chamber I made using a 3/4' pvc slip-on 90 with a small nipple, I sanded the nipple down so it would fit inside the volute snugly. This mod was a huge improvement over the sicce and much quieter and more reliable. I no longer have the 160, I relocated my sump outside the stand so I upgraded to the SRO-2000XP cone because I no longer had a height restriction. If you have the skills and tools it is worth the effort.

Cool mod. How did the cone compare with the modded 160? Did you notice much of a difference in the tank? Difference in performance? Amount of Skimmate? I have the 160 with a the red pinwheel and have been debating upgrading to the BB or just waiting and upgrading the skimmer.

tangtang long time no talk. How is that Bubble Blaster pump working on your 200? I just ordered one to replace the sicce. I am tired of the long startup issues.

Not sure if this will help you, but I on my Octo Extreme 160 I put the Red Devil Pinwheel and it eliminated any start up issues. I have still been looking at the Bubble Blasters to see if it will increase performance, but if you want to try and prevent the annoying start up issues and still have similar if not better performance than the purple pinwheels then you might want to look into the red devil pinwheel.

They are totally two different animals, even though the modded 160 was reliable and did a good job it doesn't come close to the Cone.
