October Meeting??

i'll be out that weekend....geez...i ask and i already cant attend :-/

i can do any other week...and might be able to host

saturday 6th or 13th ... noon'ish

i'm new to the hobby so my tank isn't going to be anything special......

the end of the month i have some live gigs and can't host

I think there should be A set day and time of each month already in place Like, first-fourth Saturdays. This way people can make arrangements a head of time.
But. This is just my opinion.

I’m just throwing those weeks out there, that doesn't mean I'm necessarily hosting. others are welcome to offer dates/times...the reef club comes second to my personal life IMO.

By my estimations...it should be October 20.

In the past It's always been the 3rd Sat of the month, but getting someone to host lately seems impossible much less to get them to host on the correct day. Everyone wants a meeting but no one wants to host!!!!!!!!! You can never please everyone, there will always be people that can't attend but that is their choice.:bum:

Yeah...that's why I said it's supposed to be the 20th.

Lots of restaurants have provisions for clubs. I know Ryan's steak house on Merchants has a banquet room, the food is not the best but good fellowship should compensate. I hope this is not taken the wrong way but I think it would be easier for outsiders to join if the meetings were held in a more public setting. I see where having the meetings at someones house lets everyone enjoy each others tanks but that is a little intimidating for a complete stranger. I have mention to my wife about attending a meeting, and as she is VERY shy, she is reluctant to meet in such an informal setting. Maybe have every third meeting in a public place to allow new comers a chance to get acquainted? Then again maybe my wife and I should just get out more. LOL

I agree...

IMO it's a great idea to have a few meetings at public places. Not being able to look at someones tank is a major drawback but since not many are willing to host (or have already hosted extensively) it seems like a great option. We could always make a round of the fishstores afterwards. It's not like they are far apart:p
FWIW Amy and I are more than willing to host another meeting but it will have to be in December (which is usually the Christmas party) or next spring when school is out.

The only problems I see with the public meetings is that we no longer have official club representatives to meet and greet and there is no guaranty experienced members will even participate.
Try one and let's see what happens.

Depending on when it is...I'd show up and meet greet new people. But honestly...I've been out of town every weekend for 6 weeks and I'm probably going to continue this trend.

It's not like this is a new idea either...we've had a few public meetings. But I wouldn't say a whole ton of new people show up to them (not any more than at anyone's house really).

Yes we had the usual president, vice president treasurer etc....until a few meetings ago. The club basically voted to disband the BOD due to apathy(for lack of a better word). The problem was the same people had served the same positions basically for years and nobody else wanted or was willing to serve. The powers that be also were frustrated by new ideas typically being shot down by a couple of individuals.
In essence the "problem" being that the club wasn't growing and so newer people weren't willing to step into positions in the BOD. Just to be clear and open this unwillingness includes myself due to obvious time constraints during the school year. Although I am more than willing to help out when I have time.
We were able to sign up several new members during the meeting at the Coral Reef however and IMO it is a crucial time to have meetings and to continue to make those new members feel welcome.
Maybe we should vote to reinstate the old BOD (if willing of course) and schedule another vote for later in the year (say around Christmas or whenever) to allow some new people to run for office????
Just an idea....don't shoot me:p

Meeting

I have been the hobby for about as long as it has been around. Anyone remember Prodigy and the reef forum there? Thought not. Anyhow I recently combined 2 small reef tanks into a larger tank and my corals have gone crazy. I have very mature softies, purple shrooms, Clove polyps, and giant palythoas, algae, live sand with mini brittle stars and millions of pods that I would love to bring to a meeting, and swap. The problem is that as a nurse I work every other weekend and my luck has sucked with getting off for a meeting. Is there any other way that you guys do swaps or is it just at meetings?

The best thing to do is to start your own thread with what you have to trade in the title and see what happens:)
You might get some takers you might not but it doesn't hurt to see what will happen.
