octopus question

I got an octopus from a local aquarium store.. Its been doing great. I've had it for almost three weeks now. About 2 days ago I woke up and found what might appear to be eggs.. There round and white and there's a ton of them stuck to the glass.. She been blowing water at them since them and hasn't moved from where she layed the eggs.. Also I fed her some cooked shrimp but didn't seem to care too much for it.. Will those eggs hatch in a few weeks or does she need a male to fertilize the eggs?

I can not recall if fertilization takes place internally or not. I remember the whole "tempt into the lair" bit, but not if the female subsequently laid the eggs or not.

Anyway, you know that this means that your octo is not long for this world, right? Unfortunate, really. You may have more luck with this question in the Ceph forum above, or one a ceph dedicated forum. Maybe even one of the marine breeders forums.

After it lays eggs the octo starves itself to death. If the eggs are large and were fertilized in the wild you can end up with baby octos if you adopt the proper style or filtration and water pumps. Small eggs have not been successful from what I hear.

Oh wow how would I be able to tell the eggs where fertilized.. I haven't seen any development in the eggs and its been a week and a half.. I tried directly feeding the octopus but she eventually ends up spiting it out..
