octopus substrate?

I have a 55 gal hex with a mud sump refugium
40 lb live rock. I plan on building a cave
Do I need to put live sand down for my base, I have some very fine live sand in a tank in the basement or can I go bare bottom?
I have a 65w pc what bulb should I run?
This was a reef tank for 6 years I moved all corals and fish to my 125 reef in the basement.

I would use sand so that he can burrow, plus I try to make my tanks as natural as possible.

I put down a four inches of very fine live sand.
What kind of lighting?

Not very bright. Just NO flourescents. Brighter lights will make them stay hidden more.

I had planned on running a 50/50
is this too bright?

He should be fine. That's not blindingly bright, but also good enough to grow some nice corals/macro.

would I be better off with a 40 watt pc 50/50
and run a 55 watt blue actinic
Or just the 40 watt and move the actinic down stairs in my mud sump.
I do not want to grow any corals in this tank all I want to do is try to keep the glasss and live rock algae free.

I would just try both ways, and see whichever one you think is more pleasing. Neither way should be too much, since one is actinics.
