Odd? behavior of GSM's

Hi all. I have a mated pair of Gold Stripe Marroon Clownfish. The male bounces from host to host a bit, but the female is sticking close to my torch coral. Lately (last week), she has been pushing the torch around a bit, and hollowing out the cave behind it. She kicks up sand with her tail by moving it back and forth really fast, and I have seen her picking up bits of shell/rock and carrying it out of the cave. Is this a sign of distress? or is she preparing to spawn. Hopefully the latter. Please let me know if this is normal, or something I need to be concerned about. Thanks, Bobby

I sold my mated pair a couple of months ago, but when they first started spawning, it was a constant battle with her rearranging things. After a couple of months, I gave up, and accepted that is how she wanted the tank. Once I did that, she stopped.

So, yes it is normal, not much you can do about it.

However, (thinking as I type) one thing that may have help too, was I put a tile in the tank for them to spawn on, after awhile they started using that.

I don't know about it being pre-spawning behavior. I have kept GSM'S in pairs and alone and they will exhibit these signs constantly. Stirring up the sand, moving things in the tank if they don't like where they are. I've seen them tip over rocks and tip over newly placed corals in the tank. That is why I don't keep them anymore, nothing odd about what you have been seeing.
