Odd GBTA behavior

I've had my GBTA for over a month now and he has very odd behavior..

When I first put him in he did the normal hide in the back corner thing. He then came out once he was comfortable. About a week later he decided to go for a walk and floated into a Koralia 3 tentacle down. As soon as I saw that, I turned off the PH and did not attempt to remove him. About an hour later he removed himself and I noticed some minor tentacle damage, but did not see any foot damage.

Since then he pretty much hid, which I didn't blame him.

However.. the past week or so he has been out in plain view but looks dead one day and VERY healthy the next. Sometimes he will look like a piece of chewed gum. No inflation. No color. Gaping mouth. Not attached to anything. I assumed the worst because of all these signs. I went to remove him and noticed there was no smell at all and the skimmer was normal. He also clung to my glove when I picked him up. Not wanting to put him out until certain he was dead, I put him back in the tank with his foot in a cranny. Hours later he will be inflated and 6"-8" across and BRIGHT green with a super tight mouth.

He goes through this cycle of fake death almost daily. I try to feed him chunks of mysis or "Emerald Entree" by setting it on his tentacles and close to his mouth. I've honestly never seen him actually eat though. He won't even attempt to hold it and I don't want to force it near his mouth. Usually the clown will come and eat it from him. I have yet to try silversides.

I thought he was splitting for a while as his foot is like a clover now, having 3 sections. Then I read that they split at the mouth.

I have two Koralia 3's for flow and an Aquactinics TX5 for lighting. I know this is more than enough for him. He seems to do the best when the lights are off though.

Water parameters are all in normal parameters except NO3 is 10ppm. That is the lowest it's ever been though. Was usually 20ppm because of the horrible RO/DI water I was buying for a while. He never had this behavior with 20ppm so I don't know why 10ppm of NO3 would be the problem.

SG 1.024
Temp 78
NO2 0
NO3 10
Alk 8 dKh
Cal 420
PH 8.2

Thanks

Sam,

I have noticed the same thing with my GBTA. Mine does this every morning right after the actinics come on and it lasts for about an hour. From what I understand, they do this to expell old water and take in fresh water...and they poop! Watch from some brownish-gray slimy sh!t coming out of its mouth when it does this. I'm not saying for sure that this is what yours is doing, but it could possibly be it.
