Well i got this pistol shrimp about a month ago and I've noticed this strange thing he does. I usually feed him pellets or frozen plankton by spraying in to his burrow. The goby will eat till he pops but the shrimp will eat a tiny piece. He then grabs about 5 pellets or plankton and buries them till night fall then he digs them back up and has a feast. Anyonelse have this behavior with your pistol shrimp? Also he just molted and now has 2 pistols..lol.

My Pistol hides them in the back of his burrow, I don't think there is anything wrong with that. Dose your pistol come out much mine seems quite happy to hide in his burrow and wait for the gobie to bring it food?

Yea, mine only comes out when I cut off all my pumps or late at night. He is really brave at night he will come all the way out of his burrow with the goby and they just explore and decorate the burrow entrance. They used to be very secretive and boring but now they are so bold at night. As for the goby he guards during the day now and even chases my pair of clownfish away.

Its because they do not have very good eye sight and use the cover of darkness for safety. Obviously they use the goby for this as well.
