odd scales on Picasso Trigger

I just got a Picasso Trigger and just noticed his skin/scales when I got him home. He looks "dusty". His body looks like he got dusted with flor real light and hes colorations are sorta subdued. I dont notice any spots and the coating seems to be equal all over and I dont see any type of fin damage or rot. I have only had hom for 2 days and he was this way when i got him. For now he is in a tank with two domino damsels and I dont plan on adding anything else until I know hes okay. He acts fine and eats great. Should I medicate him or just watch him for a few days and look for improvement?

I'd do a search on marine velvet and see if any of the pics look like your fish. It is somewhat commonly described as having a dusted appearance.

Ahhh,

That trigger is pretty skinny and likely has an old Cryptocaryon infection to boot - the dust being excess mucus. It doesn't look like velvet to me, but it could be that, or another protozoan like Uronema (less likely). No signs of reddness, so it is probably not a bacterial infection. *Possibly* the mucus could be caused by trematodes, but not too likely. If it were my fish, I would run it through a proper ionic copper treatment at 0.20 ppm for 14 days.

The white dots on your glass are unrelated to this and are normal.

Since you've only had the fish for two days, it was almost positvely sick when you bought it, especially if your existing fish had no issues.

I have treated for 5 days with a treatment made by Instant Ocean called Lifeguard and is supposed to be a one in all treatment for all conditions. Looks somewhat better but not healed. Do you think its got him fixed and it will take a while for his color to return or is he not healed? I started copper treatment today...good or bad idea? Thanks in advance
