odd trigger behavior?

have you ever seen a trigger do barrel rolls? i was watching my tank today and i saw my clown trigger hiding behind some rocks doing barrel rolls. he'll roll then wait a bit and do it again. he did it a few times. is this normal behavior?

To the OP:Is he eating normally? How long have you had him? If a recent purchase; are his colors unusually vivid? I saw this once in a Niger while still in QT and lost him I suspected cyanide capture. If you've had him a while, he's eating, and colors are normal---that wouldn't be the problem.

Also, does he seem to be doing it intentionally, or does it seem as if he is sort of listing over and over again?

I've seen a few triggers do this nothing was wrong with them.

The only time I have seen a trigger do barrel rolls was mine when it was in copper right before it died. I actually posted a thread here about triggers doing barrel rolls and the only other person who had seen it said the trigger they saw doing it in a prazi medication and theirs lived.

In the future it would be a good idea to use the search function before posting a new thread (I'm guilty of not doing it too). I would say 99% of questions have been answered already on here.

my queen trigger does barrel rolls all the time. I always assumed it was normal.

I used to have a Hawaiian Black trigger that would go backwards thru all the caves and crevices in the rocks then would start at one end and swim as fast as he could thru all of them. He would do this over and over again.

I had a mature clown trigger that would regularly barrel role. I just assumed it was keeping itself amused.

Yeah. I should have mentioned that the Niger I referred to above was obviously out of control when he rolled. Acted like a bad drunk. IMO & IME; the key to most of these odd behavior questions is simply knowing the fish. If he's in control of himself, no big deal. If he isn't, that indicates a problem. Being a Clown Trigger, this is probably just some gang-related thing meaning he's getting ready to kill something.

If he still swims around elsewhere otherwise I'd say nothing to worry about. My humu would do a kind of a forward somersault 180 degrees, then roll back upright and take off in the other direction. They're peculiar fish and will find some odd stuff to entertain themselves. I also noticed mine would do something for a week or two, get bored with it, then find a different way to entertain himself. Will definitely be including a trigger in my 150g fowlr I'm working on getting setup.

If he's just staying back there for a day or two without moving about elsewhere though then I'd be a bit more concerned. If it just something he'll go do every now and then, I wouldn't worry too much about it.
