well made the mistake and got the 48 in 2x 250W HQI, 4x 65W Power Compact odyssea before reading all the horror stories..And am taking the percautions and changing out the Ballast and etc...What are the right things I need? What type of Ballast and they say the compact lights that come with them arent the good ones..So what brand of bulbs do I need to buy? Thanks....

Several of us bought the new 2009 fixture and have been very pleased with this unit. Don't read too much into the old horror stories of them "burning your house down". Those were the old magnetic ballasts. They have come a long way in the 2009 models having the electronic ballasts. My unit pulls 270watts per ballast and the bulbs are surprisingly good - they emit a nice cool blue color and no noticeable yellow. I dont use actinic supplements with mine either when the MH's are on. Will I replace the ballasts with something better? Yes, when these die. Same thing for the bulbs. In the end, I am very pleased with the new units. Give them a shot. Hope this helps with some info for you. Here is a link you can look at - some good info in it.

okay great! just in case I am buying 2 Phoenix 250W 14K DE Metal Halide HQI Reef Lighting Bulbs and 2 new Ballast. Does your ballast put out the right power? like 247 watts ? or do you know?

Yes. I tested both of my ballasts and they are pulling 270-275watts each. I will get new ballasts and bulbs eventually but will let these do their thing till they are due for replacement.
