Off Topic: Anyone Own a Small Fishing Boat? (Lake Only)

Thinking about stepping up my fishing game.

Looking to buy a small ~15-17' aluminum hull fishing boat.

Anyone have one? Any advice?

I have one and fish from San Diego to the Sierra Nevada lakes. Freshwater and saltwater. Tow it in my 2013 Civic. I want a boat and a truck but hard to beat the mpg lol

Check out Porta-bote...they are pretty awesome for a simple fishing boat. They fold up for easy storage and are tough. You can throw a motor on them too.

i gotta say, it's a blast in the harbor. But once in awhile if you aren't careful you end up with a ray, or a big halibut, or a small shark. And sometimes that really sucks on a tube.

Some of my friends were a little more nutty than me... They would fish the wall at night in their tubes, outside -- not inside

I have owned a handful of boats and the only one that I really loved is my current one. It is a big 'ol wide aluminum canoe. It is light enough for an old man to carry and it is so stable I take my son out in the open ocean in it. I think the wider the better.

There is nothing to worry about out past the breakwall....besides the annoying dogs.

Damn things took all our bait tonight....even at 80 feet deep. Couldn't get a single legal lobster. When they aren't around we get some but tonight, nada!

I have and had multiple boats over the years, I started off with a Lowe 14ft x57" wide 10hp mod-v that I fished out of for years. I was a great starter boat that was a open plan for designing what I wanted with fish finders, trolling motors. I sold it and moved to a used with a 40hp Tracker deep V with steer. My family like it so much that after a year I sold that and bought a brand new Alumacraft 18ft Competitor with a 115 4s fish ski. Nothing wrong with style of boat you have pictured, you will have a great time.

Advise- Find something thats easy to store, look at the owners wiring if they did a hack job with wires laying out poor connections to the batteries. Dont settle on a OKAY that will do keep looking Facebook has sale groups for boats and join up some fishing groups to get their opinion on a future buy.

On a float tube (Not kayak), you gotta watch out for boaters not paying attention, and catching a swell and hitting rocks. I only hit the wall on the tube once (at night), buddy of mine did it pretty regularly until he got pushed into the rocks and messed up his knee. Made getting back an ordeal.
